1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Red and polka dot retro dress on: May 28, 2007 11:17:08 AM
Yet another incarnation of the Butterick 4790 dress. But it's such an awsome pattern, does it matter if everyone's already made one? Mine's made with polycotton for both the plain red and the polka dot section. I've used vintage buttons for the hidden one at the back and the 3 red ones at the front. It does look a little rumpled at the top as I'm really short waisted and didn't make any alterations.

2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / The vintage Jordy on: May 15, 2007 02:23:04 PM
First bag ever! I followed the Jordy tutorial but used the variation someone mentioned about leaving the hole in the top of the bag, rather than the bottom corner.

The outer fabric is late 1960's, certainly before 1971 as it had a price tag for shillings still attatched. The lining is some poplin I had left over from a top.

3  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Vintage fabric widths on: May 13, 2007 04:47:48 AM
Does anyone know how wide fabrics were in which decades? I've been going off the design to age a fabric but I've come across some plain lilac crepe which I suspect is as early as 1930s but I can't find out how to date it.
4  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / U.K. AND IRELAND / Fabric shopping in Birmingham? on: April 08, 2007 02:33:37 AM
I'm going at the weekend so I'd love to hear some places for decent fabric shopping. Where I live only has one semi-expensive shop so I'm fairly excited about the prospects in a big city  Smiley
5  U.K. AND IRELAND / ENGLAND / Knitting and Stitching show, Harrogate on: November 18, 2006 07:37:54 AM
Woo, it's next weekend. Is anyone going? I'll be there with my Nana on the sunday.
6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Some completed cross stitch on: October 26, 2006 10:45:12 AM
I take mini kits to work to do during my breaks. These are some that I have finished recently:

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Dress from 1970's green floral sheet UPDATED on: October 07, 2006 03:36:26 AM
I used New Look 6557 for this. It was so easy!! It's only the third project I have done  Grin.

I'm wearing this tonight as my boyfriend and I are celebrating 2 years together and I suspect he's going to be asking a certain question  Smiley.

Last night, 2 mins after finishing:

This morning when I convinced the boyf to take pictures for me:

I'll be wearing it with that pashmina since it's freezing now!

EDIT: He proposed and I said yes  Grin
8  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Washing velvet on: October 05, 2006 12:46:22 PM
I got some beautiful royal blue velvet from the junk shop I get all my fabric from. I think it may have some silk in it.

How do I wash it? It has the usual musty, damp smell all the fabric has from there.

I'm not putting fabreeze near it, hate the stuff.
9  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Vintage buttons on: October 02, 2006 11:24:15 AM
I was lucky enough to come across a huge stash of vintage buttons at the weekend. Is there anyway I can tell what they are made from? I suspect some may be made of bakelite.
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / My new top! on: September 17, 2006 08:37:25 AM
This is the first top I have made! It's New Look #6515, view D. It's made from an old 1970's duvet cover that I got for 4 in a junk shop. Excuse the funny expression on my face, the Sun was right in my eyes.

And laid out on my sewing room floor:
