41  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Crochet Tealight Holder String (Don't look Selkie!) on: January 17, 2011 02:39:18 PM
Hi all,

I saw this awesome pattern on Ravelry for a tealight holder made with Noro yarn and felted. It was knit. I am impatient. I wanted to crochet it instead and made it in a solid color instead of the Noro. I made it for the Imbolc Tiny Thing swap.

All you have to do is make it 2" wide by 11" long. I crocheted it using an I hook, 8 stitches across and crocheted through the back loops only. Next time I will do it through both loops, but...eh. I'd suggest making it wider as well, since every time I moved it, the tealights shifted around.

Here 'tis. Comments welcome!

42  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Managing fabric bulk when machine quilting? on: January 11, 2011 03:58:08 PM
Hi all, sorry if this question is a repeat, I tried to find the answer.

Last time I quilted, I wussed out and tied it instead of sewing it because I found that my twin-sized quilt was too bulky to fit under the "neck" of my regular sewing machine (a Euro-pro). I basted and rolled it, but to no avail.

What techniques, resources or info is there on managing the bulk without having to buy a special quilting machine (which is WAY beyond the ol budget.)?

Thank you!  Grin

Welcome to the One Tiny WWP Imbolc Thing Swap Round 25!

The idea of this swap is to create one tiny thing for your partner to celebrate Imbolc, Brigid's Day, Candlemas, or just the plain old coming of spring and light from the darkness of winter! This Greater Sabbat falls on Feb. 2nd. It falls between the winter solstice and the spring equinox and the holiday is an observation of new beginnings, returning of daylight, purification, new milk, chastity and fire.

Ideas may include (but not limited to) decorated candle holders, altar decorations like a Brigid's cross or bride doll, maybe even Imbolc-themed sweets! Fire and new beginning themes are very welcome in this swap!

Information about Imbolc may be found here: http://paganwiccan.about.com/od/imbolcfebruary2/a/AllAbout_Imbolc.htm

44  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Argh! The hideous floral carpet of doom! on: January 02, 2011 05:51:58 AM
Hi all,

I am soon moving into my grandma's house. Problem is I don't really have any money for decorating. I have brownish colored furniture and nice off white walls in the living room. I however hate patterns that are strong and in the room is a geometric floral rug that is mostly tan but has red roses and leaves all over it. And not pretty ones either. It's actually a good quality carpet with padding underneath but

1. totally not my style
2. I feel adds to the chaotic feeling in the room
3. is away from the wall a foot on all sides making the room seem smaller. (free floating, not tacked down. hardwood underneath in good shape).

It kinda looks like this but with a tan background:

Suggestions for what to do to make it more livable would be appreciated. Unfortunately, I love zen like things, solids and calm colors, want my living spaces calm. I am truly moving into an old lady house and it's driving me nuts.

Thanks for any help!

50  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Creamy Hot Process Soap Goodness! on: August 24, 2010 05:29:13 AM
Woo hoo!

I did a really nice batch of lavender hp soap. It came out beautifully, the texture was creamy and wonderful, no crumblies! I made it in a 2 qt slow cooker.

Closeup of color: tried to make it purple, it came out pink. I added the color way too early, but actually it produced a nice even tone!

Whaddaya think?  Cheesy
