1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / Looking for Tahitian Pearls on: November 03, 2009 11:33:59 AM
Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone know of a good source for reasonably priced loose Tahitian Pearls?

I know the already made jewelry is WAY expensive and my MIL wants the look without the cost. She doesn't want to spend that kind of money on jewelry any more and was hoping that I could make something for her.

I appreciate your help!

2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / 18th Century Duchess on: November 03, 2009 10:04:05 AM
Hello Everyone!

I am really excited about this costume. Of course I made it and of course no one believed me.
It took me about 3 nights and one full day from start to finish. I also made my necklace.
I wish there was a better picture of my hair but it was really pretty and big and curly.

I won 1st place in our costume contest at work!

Without further adieu, here are the pics Smiley

Comments and Crits totally welcome!

3  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Child Abuse Prevention Center needs your help! on: October 22, 2009 10:51:28 AM
Hello All!

My work is Partnering with the Child Abuse Prevention Center in Sacramento, CA.

I know this is short notice but I'm hoping that maybe a couple of people could help me out.

This center aids foster kids leaving the system. When they turn 18 they are basically shown the door and basically just have a garbage bag (literally) of their belongings and wished well. They have no money and often times no knowledge of the outside world. Most of these kids end up falling through the cracks never to be heard from. Most of them end up on the street and a most of them will end up selling their body within the first 6 months to make money to survive.

99% of people in prison and on death row were abused as a child. Thats a crazy statistic!

On November 6th, my work will be presenting this center with items for the kids. Blankets, towels, luggage, personal hygiene products, slightly used appliances etc.

If you have anything lying around and you dont know what to do with it, or are in a crafty mood and can whipe something up, I'm sure they could use it at the center! Or extra toothpaste tubes lying around, toothbrushes, etc.

If you have any questions or would like to send something along (I would need to receive it by Nov 5th) please PM me and I will send you the address to send it to.

Thanks in advance for any help you are able to give!

4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Hemming new Jeans on: October 01, 2009 09:38:04 AM
Hello everyone!

I need your help!

I got this awesome pair of 1921 Jeans (reg price $158.00 but I got them for $15...I love Loehmann's!)

Anyway, they are long...like....5-6 inches too long for me. But the problem is that they have a really cool bottom to them. Its about 3 inchs of a really cool dye job that I dont want to lose because it totally makes the jean.

How can I go about hemming them to fit me without losing the bottom part? They are bootcut/flared jeans. I want them to continue looking cool but even with my tallest heals they are still too long.

Please help! I know with all the crazy creative people on this forum someone must have some idea?!

Thanks so much fellow Craftsters!

6  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / Anthropologie Waterfall Sleeve Blouse on: August 19, 2009 09:29:32 AM
I just LOVE this blouse. Its not something I would typically like but theres just something about it!

Does anyone know how I would go about making the sleeves like that? I think I have an idea of how I could but it's probably not the same way that they went about it and I want it to look very similar when its done. (obviously I can't afford to buy this...I dont think I can really afford anything from Anthropologie! Shocked) Sometimes they have some really cute pieces though!
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / Eiffel Tower Beaded Bracelet Pattern on: June 17, 2009 02:45:04 PM
Hi Everyone!

here is my situation:

I have a good friend that lives in France. She is coming to America for three months for work and will be visiting with us multiple times during her 3 month stay. I haven't seen her in awhile and am really excited that she is coming.

I wanted to make a bracelet for her. And I wanted to put a picture of the Eiffel Tower on it. Sort of like this Mona Lisa style: http://www.beadandbutton.com/bnb/default.aspx?c=a&id=2018

Has anyone seen a pattern similar to this for the Eiffel Tower or know where I could make one?

I appreciate your help!

8  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Looking for a Job in the Fashion Industry on: May 07, 2009 01:48:30 PM
First off, I apologize if this is in the wrong board.

I was recently laid off from a job that I LOVED! I worked in the buying office for Women's Shoes for a well-known Dept. Store.

I thought I had finally found my career. I loved going into work everyday!

This now leaves me with finding a new job, and I dont want to get just any old job, I want another job that I will love and will possibly be my life-long career.

I went to college for Fashion Design & Techniques. I am able to design, sketch, draft patterns, sew, etc.

I really want to find something in the fashion industry, but of course, that is proving impossible. I dont have the means to start up my own thing (which of course I would love to do).

I would also love working for a fashion magazine or online blog about fashion, etc.

If you have any advise or ideas, that would be greatly appreciated! I've tried cold calling, replying to job postings, etc.

Please Please Please help me!

Without further ado...my hat:
