1  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: How's your Etsy shop doing now? on: July 25, 2008 11:34:14 AM
Morning holly! About 3 years ago, I paid some $35 for an hour class at the local bead shop for the 'classic' cabochon wire wrapping using square wire. Then from there, I bought online tutorials, from Remy http://www.studioheath.com/tutorials.php and Eni http://www.enijewelry.com/jewelry/lessons.html. I LOVE the online tutorials, because the pictures are as big as your screen, and lots more than are practical in a printed book. And you can start with their easier tutorials, and build up to their advanced ones!

Pricing is the hardest thing for me too! Mine has been more trial and error! But I've been reading that thread about pricing and increasing your prices on Etsy forums! Something to consider...

So cute, Sarasvati!

Holly - Cool with the Aussie connection! Maybe now you'll have a reason to visit Australia! Smiley Lapidary is really my first love. The wrapping is just so I can do something with them!

BeaG - You can see how it effects your sales. I once raised my price way too much, and had some feedback about that! So I lowered it and 'recovered' my sales, and then I raised it maybe $1 a year, with some changes in design. Good luck!

Barbalot - Congratulations too!

...and Erika too, with 500 sales!!

Here's my latest wrapping play: (it's for me  Grin )

Hi Craftsers! It HAS been forever and ever since I've posted on here. I first opened in March of 06! I started with not selling and dispairing, to selling over $800 a month and then burning out, and doing everything from trying to sell handknit socks (that's how I chose the name 'Sockdiva' and I never did sell a pair of socks!  Cheesy) to my staple Sockbug purse to now trying to sell more expensive jewelry! I regret letting the momentum die, and it does if you don't keep promoting, to almost starting over now.

So I'm back, to make sure I'm still making things by sharing them here, to offer encouragement, see all the awesome things you guys are making, and trying to pace myself better so I keep ENJOYING making things, and not burning out again!

For fun, I thought I'd share a photo of the first 'jewelry' I listed, and my latest!

I discover polymer clay! And I added a glass bead! Woot!

Left polymer for lapidary. Now I have HUNDREDS of pounds of raw rock, a 14 inch saw and Genie. And I discovered Eni...

4  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: Fiber Friday April 13th on: April 13, 2007 04:00:49 PM
I hadn't spun for months! Then I wandered here (hi Amy!) and saw all the wonderful skeins of goodness, I got inspired! So I spun up this soy silk that I won on ebay, and navajo plied.

I've been so busy sewing, but I think just to join in with all you awesome spinners, I'll be at my wheel more, no matter how crazy busy I feel!

Ooh, AishaCelia, that skein is luscious!!

I LUVE the happy bunnies! Grin

It's hard to get myself away from the computer to sew! My April sales are at a near standstill after a really good March.Huh On the other hand, I am doing a consignment of about 20 items -but I always do a mini freak when the sales stopat my shop.  Cry

So it's super slow for some, okay for others?

On the other hand, and entirely OT, I bought a truck!! A used Toyota that I already love. You have no idea how long I've wanted a little truck, and finally at 48 yrs old, I have one!! Yippee!!!

This March 14 marks my 1 year Etsyverisary!

My goals are:
1. Sell 23 items. I sold 19 in Jan, 21 in Feb, so I'm trying to do make a pattern. lol. (40 items this month in 27 orders!)
2. Pursue wholesale. (oh fine. I backed out of wholesale completely. I MISSED the sales/convos/feedback! So I dropped my prices back down. And it's picked up again. Phew! I LOVE my forgiving customers!!!)
3. Apply to a summer show. (not yet)
4. Balance my sewing, jewelry, and add something new to my shop. Something small and fun, like bottle cap magnets! (I've been doing more jewelry, and helping put together the fuzzy bunnys that my dd is knitting! I missed playing with stone and silver.  And I think dd bunnies count as small and fun and cuddly to boot!)

Good luck in March, everyone!

I just assumed it wasn't this thread, but others in the 'etsy' part of Craftser. This is such a supportive place!

Love the muppet pendants! What fun!

THose little purses are  great. I know about having weakness for fabric!

This was really the place I hung out when I first started. Because it was much more positive and supportive than the Etsy forums, that were going through a really rough period! A bit scary to go there... lol.

That owl purse was TOO CUTE!

BeaG, I like that jewelry! Perfect for the techie kind...

Here's a ring I just finished, but haven't listed yet.  I want to take better pics in the daytime before I list it. But I'm restless! I'm hitting a slow period in sales. Boohoo. Did I mention that already? I've been doing a lot of whining too. :-)

I agree with tiph - if it all has your 'uniqueness'  on it, I like a variety of things. That said, I'm so bummed! I did raise my prices quite a bit so I could wholesale (with a girlfriend/mentor/rep working on it) but this last week, things that have usually sold within days are still there. Boohoo. Growing pains. So I pulled out the polymer clay again, which has been fun.

I hope things pick up though, soon. I can of think it won't until after April 15th!
