and a better picture of the fabric-

(only nothing too bad 'cause as we speak i'm wearing the skirt in public  Smiley )

(edited to fix strange use of a comma)

22  Re: quickie dress that anybody can make in Clothing Sewalongs by acidalbatross on: July 18, 2006 07:28:58 AM
i finally made mine- the fabric i choose was slightly too thick for the dress, but it still works (i think)-
here it is-

(i look like HELL in this picture)

another variation

and the fabric 'cause it looks very strange in the photos-

23  Re: ATTACK of the PLAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by acidalbatross on: July 08, 2006 09:53:58 AM
thank you, i wore it the other day, and finally decided i liked it (the ribbon helped)- here's a picture -

not an exceptional picture (oh well)

it's uber-comfy, and it'll be really good for the fall when i can wear a wool cardigan without dying

oh and here's monty-

he's very disappointed that i'm taking pictures of myself instead of feeding him Smiley

24  FRIDA!! in her own words in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by acidalbatross on: July 03, 2006 06:21:43 PM
this was an art project from last year- we had to make some kind of picture using words-
this was at the height of my obsession with Frida Kahlo (who will always be one of my heroes)-
the words are all from her diary-

and here's some close-ups- the words aren't especially legible, but they're there-

all the kids in my class were very disturbed by her mustache  Grin

25  ATTACK of the PLAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by acidalbatross on: July 02, 2006 10:08:26 PM
so using Lamby's tutorial I made this-

(awful picture- but currently the only one I have)
I'm semi happy with it- but it really seems way too............. plaid
I love plaid, but I really feel like i need to add something to the dress to break up the plaidness
it may be just me but i feel like it would go well with a cowboy hat and boots, but unfortunately that is definitely NOT my style
other than that its uber comfortable and cool-- i'm more than happy to wear it at home-

heres a picture of it with a cardigan- i like it with the cardigan- but thats really not practical in the middle of summer-

(yup- myspace angles at work)

any suggestions on changes are very very welcome

thanks for looking Grin

27  my father is an Oompa Loompa in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by acidalbatross on: June 27, 2006 05:14:02 AM
I didn't want to do laundry last night, so i made this skirt out of fabric i had laying about, and as soon as i finished it, i realized i had finally found an outfit to wear with the bright orange tights i had bought for 50 cents  Grin
here it is-

a bit blurry but it gets the idea across- the tights are actually a little brighter, but the lighting was terrible

and heres a clearer picture-

(the camera took the picture a little early)

the skirt is a fairly simple 4 panel skirt- i find the 4 panels are the most flattering for my ummm... wide hips

thanks for looking, and any comments etc are welcome

oh- and i just realized the shirt is a recon- wrong thread i know, but i don't feel like posting it separately

28  finished! my tiara- now with a sad attempt at a tutorial in Knitting: Completed Projects by acidalbatross on: June 22, 2006 08:56:01 PM
i had to clean my room this weekend, so i decided to make a tiara for the occasion- and i am now in love with felting, so i decided to knit and felt myself a tiara- i made up the pattern for it as i went along-

i'm only half way through embroidering it, and eventually i'm going to put some red beads on it-

here i am wearing it (with my greasy hair)

i think i'll add another picture of it once i'm finished

yup thats it- i think i'm going to make more with a slightly different pattern (my little cousin already wants one)-
ideas of changes, or comments are definitely welcome

29  my amazing fedora in Knitting: Completed Projects by acidalbatross on: June 20, 2006 02:41:28 PM
so far my only accomplishment this summer has been my fedora-
i got the pattern from Folk Hats by Vicki Square- i hand felted it (it took about 2 hours) because i was too much of a wimp to try to machine felt it-

unfortunately the brim doesn't stay up exceptionally well- does any one know how to deal with this?

here it is with a ribbon around the brim- i think i will replace it with something more fun-

over all i'm happy with it- but i don't think i'll wear it much- i kinda just wanted to be able to say that i made my own fedora Grin

30  a bunch of oddly colored people - and a disgusting number of pictures in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by acidalbatross on: May 25, 2006 09:15:26 PM
here are most of my oil paintings, i have issues with color, and i refuse to buy paints other than the primary colors (and black and white)
so these are the result-

first, here is bob marley, i painted him 2 summers ago-

heres a random old man- for some reason, pictures of old angry men make me happy

j. robert oppenheimer

sorry its so blurry

here are two that i don't like very much- but whatever- i didn't treat the paper (or in the second case, cardboard) well so it kinda made thngs more difficult

i did this one last year, its a  mixture between a painting of bernadine dohrn, a victim of the french revolution, and an illumination of Hildegarde of Bingen

so thats all, any comments or whatever are uber welcome- and i've decided to spend the summer getting better at painting, so any ideas for improvement are definitely good-
