1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: A Series of Cautionary Tales or What NOT to Do in Knitting on: August 31, 2006 08:48:46 PM
I have a bit of cautionary advice:

Always knit for yourself.

Ive been knitting almost a year, and have turned out *counts* 15 or so FOs.

Out of those....only ONE was made for myself. ONE.

And what am I working on now? A scarf for someone else.

Granted, every person Ive made something for has appreciated and used it (except a hat for an ex roommate....but that hats mine now), but I wish I had more to show for my work.

But Ive learned. After this, Im making myself something before I start the next friend's project.

For everything you make someone else....make something for yourself

Thanks ladies. She went bounding out of the house in her little Black Sabbath T-shirt today. She's my heavy metal baby. Her top five (like owns her own CDs) are Johnny Cash, Frank Zappa, Black Sabbath, Manowar, and Disney Princess songs. lol.

If you've never seen a 6 year old girl triumphantly sing "Stand and Fight" by Manowar, you just haven't lived.

Thats so great. Scott Columbus (the drummer of Manowar) is a friend of my family's....Ill definitely have to tell him that. Hed be amused

8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: single socks on: April 25, 2006 02:31:54 PM
You know what....unless youre doing something specific (like harry potter socks or socks for a friend) who cares if they dont match....my socks never match anyway....so I might as well just make a bunch of different socks to increase my mismatched collection...

SSS doesnt have to be bad

10  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: lace up opera length fingerless gloves on: April 09, 2006 09:53:49 AM
well....heres what I came out with yesterday....a practice FO, if you will

As you can see my m1's need work....I'd never done one before, so I learned the easiest quick...she wasn't lying when she said there'd be a hole....

In addition to that, I just want less spacing between the stitches

moral of the story? smaller needles perhaps to go with my smaller yarn? I don't know. Suggestions would be lovely

The yarn Im using is Steinback Wolle (its Austrian...I love my LYS) It says itll get 4in with 33 rows and 25 st on US 3-4 needles

Sorry if that was hard to understand....I dont speak austrian
