1  Dia De Los Muertos Kitties in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by Mantis on: September 05, 2016 08:09:08 AM
Hey guys! Smiley I was working on some simple Halloween-type project ideas that were cheap to do, so I went to the thrift shop and got some 99 cent old porcelain cat figures and re-painted them with Acrylic Paints, Micron Pens and some Matte varnish top coat. So fun! ^_^ I wasn't sure which category to put these in, so hopefully the More Art, Less Craft is somewhat appropriate.

2  2013 Artwork in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by Mantis on: February 08, 2014 12:33:45 PM
I haven't done any drawing this year, so I'm hoping that looking at some of the work I did last year will inspire me to start back up. Looking all everyone's art and crafts on Craftster is even more inspiring and motivating! Smiley

Might be my favourite of last year. I remember the mood and head space I was in when I did this. I had no idea what I was going to draw when I was working on this, but is usually the case. Tongue

Self Portrait:

And a couple of cutesie ones:

Based on my love of twizzlers / red liquorice...ahhh.. now I was some.

Now to go and actually make some new things! ...Buttttt twizzlersssss... might need to nip to the store first.

3  3 Kittie-Type Plushies in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Mantis on: February 08, 2014 12:22:49 PM
Hi everyone, long time no see! Smiley I recently completed two spiderweb-motif critters. One looks more like a cat and the other is more like a monster. The purple one is inspired by Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time.

I didn't really like how the white one turned out, but his little scampy face is growing on me.

4  Handmade Skull Metal Bookmarks & Keychains in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Mantis on: February 08, 2014 12:08:22 PM
Helllo everyone! I've been gone from Craftster for ages. Yowza. Sad I haven't posted in this thread before, but I've started getting really into sculpting again. I've just been starting with small pieces, but they have been really fun and I hope to work on some larger pieces soon. Everyone here has always been so supportive of each other and I'm blown away with how talented people are! It is so inspiring, so I hope to be on here much more often.

Made from polymer clay, acrylics and little scraps of metal and jewelry for adornments.

I'm really diggin' making these metal bookmarks.. so pretty!

I finished a few more yesterday and made them into keychains:

And lastly, a pair of earrings. They were two of the first skulls I tried making, so they are a little simpler in design. Smiley :

5  Gluten Free Mini Carob Cake with Cashew Cream Frosting in Dessert by Mantis on: November 08, 2012 02:50:00 PM
Just posted this new recipe on my site. Been really diggin' the mini healthy cakes lately! You can omit the cashew cream if you want to lower the calories. You can make it in the microwave or in the oven.

Ingredients for Mini Carob Cake
3 tbs carob powder
1 tbs coconut flour
2 tbs gluten free all purpose flour
1 packet (1.8g) xylitol or stevia (natural sweetener)
1 tsp cane sugar / date sugar / coconut sugar
pinch sea salt
tsp egg replacer / baking powder
1 tbs carob chips (optional)
tsp vanilla extract
113g unsweetened apple sauce (or around 4 tbs)
3 tbs unsweetened almond milk

Full Recipe & Instructions: http://calmmindbusybody.com/gluten-free-carob-cake/

Erf.. now I want to eat this, but it's all gone. ;\ I also made one with a chocolate mousse on top instead of the cashew cream, but I don't have that recipe posted yet. Smiley

7  Vegan Gluten Free Pumpkin Cake w/ Carob Chips & Vanilla Cream in Vegetarian / Vegan by Mantis on: November 03, 2012 06:04:02 PM
Hello everyone, ermagerd (wow now I finally say that on a regular basis..) I haven't been on Craftster for ages. Not sure why, but it just occurred to me so I rushed over here and am going to take a look at this forum as well as the sewing ones momentarily. It's nice to be back.

I've been making a lot of dessert/treats lately with a lot of experimenting (and tasting Tongue) involved. I've been really enjoying making mini cake-type things. They are actually super fast to make too.

Pumpkin Cake
2 tbs coconut flour
2 tbs all purpose gluten free flour
1 tbs buckwheat groats
1 tbs gluten free oats
1 tbs carob chips
1 tsp egg replacer
1 tsp xylitol / 1 packet of xylitol
2 tbs pumpkin puree
tbs maple syrup (or try agave/honey/coconut nectar)
2 tbs unsweetened almond milk / or rice, soy, hemp..

For full recipe: http://calmmindbusybody.com/vegan-gluten-free-pumpkin-cake/

I also have a mini carob cake too that I might post.. it's not quite finished being written up yet.

9  tribal belly dance portraits in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by Mantis on: March 15, 2012 09:24:23 PM
Not sure if this is the best part of the forum to post this in.. I'm usually posting in the sewing and cooking sections, so I apologize if there is a more photo-related area. Smiley

Anyway, I'm a tribal belly dancer who also photographs belly dancers! I have been doing some portraits for some of my friends for promo material and such and they are such lovely ladies, I thought I'd post a couple.

In case anyone is part of the tribal community, I am meeting Rachel Brice soon (!!!) so hopefully I can photograph her some day <3

10  Raw Vanilla Cream-Filled Mini Cinnamon Cakes with Chocolate Frosting in Dessert by Mantis on: March 13, 2012 07:09:06 PM
Our oven has been broken for almost two years, and I was craving cinnamon rolls, which I never eat...but my mom had gotten one from Tim Horton's  (shakes first at mother for giving me naughty cravings) and I wanted to make a raw version, but it turned into a cream-filled mini cake type of thing and better than I expected. Smiley It ended up being a cold dessert and very delicious. I still would like to make a raw cinnamon roll heated in a dehydrator next though. Wink

Ingredients for Cake Mixture

2 cups almond meal (ground raw almonds)
1 cup raisins (or a mix of raisins & pitted dates)
2 tbs orange juice (optional)
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract (or vanilla powder)

Instructions: http://calmmindbusybody.com/raw-cream-cake/ (Shows how to make Vanilla Cream & Chocolate Frosting.. all raw!)

I just had one with some coffee. They are dense and full of flavour, so a small serving is more than satisfying, which is what I like about most raw desserts... I can't really over eat them as they aren't fluffy and airy like a timbit, in which I could eat way too many :s

Oh mah gad, now I'm craving a cruller. I blame my mom once again.
