Wow Redd, thanks so much for the hint. Actually my son has FIVE b-day parties this month and I was thinking of making a blue "Tanner" one for his 6-yr-old friend... maybe with a very small batman logo or a skateboard in the corner... hmmm...

Thank you so much! Actually it took less than 3 hours. I guess I am glad her name is not Samantha-Jean or Mary Magdalene hahaha Roll Eyes

I sewed them together after taking a picture to make one giant pillow [about 27" long] so she can put it on her bed or hang it or whatever. My son's comment "Mom, the first letter is supposed to be uppercase!" [so much for appreciation...]

Do you think she will like it? It's super soft fleece [fabric remnant at JoAnn] stuffed with polyfill.

Thanks for looking!
25  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Re: Practicality, glam, ect... What do you Dress Your Kids In? SURVEY for desi on: January 06, 2008 06:29:08 PM
I have two kids [5.5 - boy and 3.5 - girl] and I absolutely do not envision them in this kind of clothing. I do not like busy patterns, odd pant/sleeve lengths, 'cutesy' sticking out shins with white socks and buckled shoes. In my circle of friends, I think most moms dress their kids in something they would be able to wear themselves [not meaning sexy short tops or tight pants - just matching their taste in width, length, shape, style] - they are mostly SAHMs so they prefer the laid-back yet stylish look of clothes that do not restrain movement, are nice-looking and low-maintenance. The clothes on this picture look neither to me :-( Sorry- the third little kid looks like a balloon! My daughter is pretty short for her age so I try to dress her in more fitting clothes, so she can resemble a girl Smiley

And one more thing - I am teaching my little one to go to the bathroom by herself, hence stretchy fabrics, easy on/off etc. are the key here [she's at preschool!].
26  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: Opening an etsy shop - do I need a business license? on: December 14, 2007 05:55:45 PM
A business checking account is pretty expensive.  My bank required a $2000 minimum balance for a business account.

This is so odd, I opened a business account and they did not require such a big amount, I think only $100 or something like that. However there is an 11$ monthly account fee.

I have my own business [not craft related] and having a business license is not expensive [Arizona]. I think I registered for 3 years and it costs only around $30. So much for that 'myth'. As a sole proprietor I do my taxes with my [employed] husband and this works out for us well.

This organization http://www.score.org/index.html helped me a lot when I started! And the advice is free.

Of course no one on etsy will tell you you have to open a business account to sell there - they don't care if you pay your taxes or not [why should they?]. However if I planned to make this more than a small hobby I would get a business license [sole proprietor is easiest and a DBA - business name]. Nobody wants to get busted by the IRS Wink
27  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Doing it in public: Leave me alone and let me knit! on: June 21, 2007 08:44:21 AM
Well there always are common associations and we cannot pretend they don't exist. Like if someone saw someone on the subway with a dirty sack on the shoulder and greasy hair people may automatically think "homeless"; when people see a person with a small camera and looking at a map - they may think "tourist". I go further: a person with skimpy clothes and bleached hair and lots of makeup to some people might look "whorish", a girl in black clothes, with piercings and a white face with black lipstick may look "goth". We can't help the fact that to non-knitters knitting looks "grandma-wise" - the needles, the rolling ball of yarn, the shoulders hunched above the project, the dangling half-sock, the murmured rows counting... that kind of picture is sorta like the Germans say "Gewoehnungssache" ["needs getting used to"] nowadays...

PS. I am a passionate knitter... at home.
