1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Project Runway Ep 8 question... on: October 08, 2009 10:21:00 PM
So I'm watching the "Un-Wedding Dress" episode.  One divorcee' states she wants all cruelty-free fabrics - including no wool!

Umm, sheep nowadays (for the last 500-800 years) are bred specifically to grow longer hair.  How can someone say that shearing sheep is cruel?  When they are sheared, they are more comfortable, can be dipped and have the parasites off them, don't get blown away in a high wind, and their babies can feed more easily.

While the shearing itself LOOKS harsh and careless, the shearers are VERY careful to not harm the sheep.  A scar means lower wool production in addition to a vector for disease.

To NOT shear them is the cruel thing!

2  California / California: South / Store closings - I has a sad.... on: February 24, 2009 10:40:29 AM
Word has come out recently that "That Yarn Store" in Eagle Rock will be closing their doors.

Stick and Stone in Van Nuys has also closed in the last month or so.

If we don't support these places, we'll be left with Joanne's and Michaels.  While they have ok stock, they can't or won't get any truly spectacular skeins, and carry nearly NO raw wool.

So either pay for the slightly higher prices for good yarns, or remember to factor in your shipping charges.  Buy local, it's good for you!
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Discuss: Project Runway "finals"? Would you wear it? on: September 16, 2008 02:29:36 PM
Possible spoilers, here: http://nymag.com/fashion/fashionshows/2009/spring/main/newyork/womenrunway/projectrunwaysuede/#
Five runway shows by PR contestants.

I spot MY winner, WHERE did Leanne find all that Tiffany blue fabric?  Drooly!  Although my build couldn't wear all those swirly baby dolls, I appreciate the work!

And would you play with necklines the way Korto has done?  Very kewl!  And Suede?  Umm, yikes!  Although I WILL try pairing darker silver with aquas, those are such Cancerian colors!

Your thoughts?
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / How do I 'fix' a long rise in pants? on: May 12, 2008 09:23:57 AM
So I'm short.  My rise is short.  I can take a pair of utra low rise pants, and they hit me just below my natural waist.

I saw "my" brand of pants on eBay marked 18A.  For some braindead reason, I think 18 ankle.  I get the pants, and they are 18 average!  I hem them up, they fit nice, except.... well, as my friend would say, "penis pants!"  The rise is long, and the extra fabric pokes out.

Now, how to fix it?  Can it be fixed?

I usually buy petite pants, but those also have a bit of the same problem, so a fix I can do to all of my pants is appreciated!

Or, how do I pattern a correct rise?  I have a good old Singer 99K, so sewing layers of denim or leather is not a problem!
