13271  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Quilt Block Swap - Round 2 Gallery on: November 02, 2012 10:41:03 AM
Did you see how I organized my fabrics? I have not done it for any new fabrics, but I plan on doing it this weekend so as to NEVER having to spend 4 days doing it again! Cheesy

anything greater than 1/2 yard--each bin is labeled and then I did a rolodex card with a swatch and the corresponding bin

Larger fabrics and overflow squashed in big bins

fat quaters are in shoe box bins by color

Batting rolled up against one wall...I have low loft and medium loft by the roll...

I also then have four bins for scraps, neatly cut into squares--and one bin for strips...

So glad I finally got some order in that room! Cheesy
13272  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Crocheters VS Knitters Swap 2012 (SIGN UP SEPT 29- OCT 14: SEND OUT NOV 14) on: November 02, 2012 08:50:28 AM
That is a great tip!  I know when I am crocheting or knitting a shawl, I start placing markers every 50 stitches or so...to help me keep in pattern and to see how much I have done...I also got into the habit of placing a needle marker on each project so I don't forget what size I was using--especially with blankets that you can use any size needle!

I have about six crochet afghans in my WIPS...I tend to get bored with big projects so I have to do them a little at a time...and I do them if I am catching up on missed TV shows!

I used to work in the prison system...a lot of guys crocheted to take up the time...they were only allowed plastic hooks or else they made hooks using paperclips...one of the guys on death row made hundreds of amigurumi animals that were perfect and tiny. Now there are both sewing and crocheting programs in most prisons...a lot of the stuff they make are donated to shelters or causes.

I got plastic bins.  I printed out each person and then each pattern...yeah--a bit of organization is required in this swap, but my sewing method is messy and chaotic as usual! Cheesy

Thanks for the toothpick link!  I just think those would make a great gift for some of my hard-to-buy for friends and family!

That is so cool that your hubby taught you!

I think the hardest part of the swap is keeping multiple patterns straight!  I have to focus on one person at a time and make notes...

It doesn't help that I have three quilts I am making on my own and those blocks are added to this mix! Cheesy

I agree--I am going to send out as I finish or else they will get lost or mixed up!

Sloth--I wish I had taken a picture of my room last night before I cleaned it up---it would make your room look, well, still bad, but at least you would not feel alone! Cheesy

Melly--I wash my quilts in warm water (I like the puckering) and if there are dark colors, I throw in a color grabber sheet...which I make myself since I use them a lot and they are rather pricey! Cheesy  I do dry mine on the line in the summer but in the winter, they go into the dryer on a warm heat...I have washed some of my quilts a lot...they get softer each time and I love that!

Paper piecing is something that I rarely do...I have a book on a wishlist that I have been meaning to order...maybe someday

I had no idea that the paint pens were so colorful and easy to use!

A peg or two in a stocking would be a fun thing for all...

I love your designs!

Thanks for showing how to use the scorer...

This is a good idea for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday as well...I am sure that my family would be tickled to have their own placecards!

So cute..the instructions will make it easy to do!  Thanks!
