I usually use a simple vinegar to increase the acidity...I have been using natural dyes for yearns on cotton muslin, but apparently, the dyes do not react the same with paper...I was told by more experienced people that I need to get a higher rag content paper as well...I have so much to learn and experiment in this area...

13  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: Christmas Diorama in Faux Vintage Box, with Tutorial on: November 16, 2017 08:08:40 AM
If you did not point out the "fake", I am not sure I would have known!  Love your attention to detail...the staple...your tutorial is so easy to follow...I often see vintage boxes at the flea market, but not tiny ones like this...too adorable!

(lol I see you have made good use of Snowtex...)

That is cool - I wonder how the hibiscus would look on cotton or wool!

I have found that each batch has a mind of its own!  I had some pages turn out to be just pink while others have some splotches of blue, which I love and aim for!  I also sprinkled rock salt on some pages to melt into some interesting patterns...I wish I had thought to include some flowers for you to try, greybird!  I will make a note to include some in future swaps!!  Same for you, Onxynox!  I bought two pounds from the herb shop (hubby drinks hibiscus tea for high blood pressure control)...I am going to do some saffron dyeing and see if I can figure out how to get a nicer brown from my mushrooms... Grin.

I am taking so many notes on this gallery...my goal for 2018 is to become more of a paper experimenter...so much to love!

I love embroidering on felt!  You picked a wonderful background, too!  Nice job!

WOW!  You did a great job under some intense time pressure!  I love that you are such a problem solver...you seem to be able to adapt and turn a negative into something very positive!

I am sure this will be a very much cherished gift...
18  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: How Do You Store Your Yarn? on: November 16, 2017 07:13:15 AM
WOW!  I am afraid if I stored yarn like that, my cats would have too much fun!  Grin

I store most of my yarn in plastic bins in a small closet. I have one for each type of yarn, like sock yarn, DK, etc.  I sort by gauge and also fiber. I use baskets to put yarns in for projects for the next month or so...ongoing projects are kept in tote bags with the pattern, needles, etc.

I made these for a friend in an apartment...they are intended to store yarn in a closet using regular clothes hangers. They hold about six large skeins of yarn...

I forgot to tell you that the papers are natural dyed...the yellow is onion skins and tumeric; the reddish one is hibiscus flowers and stems. The ones I did with mushrooms turned out to look really...nasty...so I will use them to paint over...seriously paint over! lol

I had a lot of fun putting together a mixed bag...

This was a happy swap that cheered me up this month...so much going on, but things are looking happier each day!

Wow lindy!  You are really racking up the projects and getting ready for the holidays!

I love the sock monkey hat...it is true, though, that we often taken our own projects for granted...it is nice when others appreciate that you took the time and effort to make a handmade gift for them....

I have been very busy with projects but most are about my whole house remodel...I am doing some of the projects along side my contractors...here is my big one completed...I will post more details in the home decor thread once I find my BEFORE picture...but anyway, here is my redone fireplace: I painted each brick by hand! lol

i am putting in an electric fireplace insert and gathering ideas for a screen...my next big project will be all new curtains...
