11  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Polyclay earrings on: December 15, 2007 09:41:45 AM

My first time making these.  Any suggestions for improvement for next time?  I was thinking of painting little wee faces on them.

12  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Some Christmas Gifts - A Scarf and a Couple of Hats on: November 24, 2007 07:21:55 PM

The second hat is made from yarn I overdyed with Kool Aid.  Its my first time doing that and I just loved it.

The scarf was my first time working with Noro.  And I'm a little underwhelmed with that yarn.  I was looking forward to working with it, but I found it to be so inconsistent, and way overspun.  The colours are gorgeous though, and I do like the finished object.

13  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Seamless Beanie (large pics, sorry) on: November 10, 2007 07:03:50 PM
Here is a nice easy knit, but not too boring.  Its an interesting constuction and the pattern is fantastic.  I will be using this again real soon.  Its a great introduction to short row shaping if you haven't tried it before.

This was knit in Paton's SWS natural russet.  I think the pattern highlights the self striping yarn nicely.

Free pattern can be found here http://schmeebot.com/nid/283.htm
14  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Newfoundland Mittens on: October 28, 2007 12:01:32 PM
Being a Newfoundlander, I just had to knit these mittens.  I remember having pairs of these as a girl, and never realized that it was something that came from our lovely province.

The multi coloured yarn is Scheepjes Alpine, while the black is Lion Brand Wool.  They are super warm since an almost double knit fabric is achieved by the pattern, which by the way is free from here.  Check it out.

I will be making more of these for Christmas gifts.  The next pair I make I will knit four of the top stitches at the colour change, so that I don't get the 'purl bump' that is so obvious.  But maybe some people like those little ridges of colour, I don't.
15  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Another Mohawk Hat. on: October 28, 2007 10:32:34 AM
This is such a cool pattern, and a well written book.  I highly recommend that you all go out and buy it.  Its from the book "Pretty in Punk"

I was worried about over felting this.  Its made from Lion Brand Wool.  I ran it through a was of warm water, not hot like it recommends, and it turned out pretty cool.

16  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Knitting Podcasts. Which are your favorite? on: October 02, 2007 04:16:18 PM
So, I've just discovered this whole other universe of knitting podcasts.  I know, get with the times right?

But, it seems like there are alot of them out there.  I value my fellow craftsters opinions alot.  Which ones do you all prefer?
17  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Not Just Another Monster Wreath! on: October 01, 2007 07:28:36 PM

Inspired by other monster wreaths that I saw here on Craftster, I decided to make my own.  I used up several balls of novelty yarns in this endeavor, so I am immensely pleased!

I didn't even by a styrofoam wreath to make this.  I made my wreath form buy cutting out a cardboard circle.  I gave it a 3D shape by 'padding' it with plastic bags.  (yay! recycling).  Then, I started wrapping, and wrapping.

What do you think??  (my family thinks he looks like rabid elmo)

Oh, here's a close up of the ping pong ball eyes just for fun.

20  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Camper's Swap? on: May 04, 2007 08:40:05 PM
I love to camp.  And I'm sure there are others out there like me.  I'm wondering if anyone would like to participate in a camper's swap?

Some of the ideas I was tossing around are...
  • firestarters
  • tent bag
  • stuff sack
  • untensil bag/case
  • stenciled camp T's
  • bucket hat

I'd really be interested in hearing other peoples ideas of crafted camp items, and if anyone would be interested in participating in such a swap.

I'm not sure if this type of swap has been done before.  Anyone know?

I'd be willing to organize if there was enough interest.
