1  My daughter the milkmaid: girls dress with roses in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by mamakay on: June 20, 2007 10:12:39 AM
So I got this idea in my head for a lovely little dress with an apron after seeing "some" of the nicer boutique custom things on ebay, but realizing that $100 a dress was definately out of my price range I came up with this

and here's a closer picture so you can see the embroidered rose (my first embroidery project since I was 8.

It's basically just a circle skirt over a tiered skirt (for fluffyness and twirlability) with a basic bodice.  It buttons in the back with a fabric covered button--but no pics of that since I don't like the buttonhole and think that the next on will get one of those little loops you put a button through instead.  She loves it, I only wish I'd used a little more ease in the bodice so that she could wear it longer.  She sunburns fairly easy so it's usually worn over a tee, but it still looks nice when not.  It didn't really take long to make either with the exception of gathering the tiers and then crazy woman that I am decided that it would look really cute with a crocheted edging around the circle skirt...four hours later, I needed some sleep and a hand massage.

2  So my five year is obsessed with Link in Stenciling: Completed Projects by mamakay on: June 19, 2007 11:25:21 AM
Which led to the creation of this tee.  It's my fourth stencil project but the first one I've posted, so please be kind.  He loves it and ran around to show everyone his new shirt.

4  Legend of Zelda Party*now with pictures in Party Planning by mamakay on: June 02, 2006 01:25:36 PM
So my Link-obsessed soon-to-be four year old has insisted that he needs to have a "link party" and nothing else will do.  However, other than revamping his link costume, making appropriate headgear, Wind waker Link and logo on his cake, and hunting for rubies like they were easter eggs--I'm at a loss.  Can any of you crafty chicas think of anything else 2-10 year olds can play (not everyone has to do everything) that is Zelda related?  I did think about make swords and shields for everyone but I couldn't think of some sort of reason for them nor am I sure it's a good idea to hand the younger ones pointy objects.  Please help!!  No idea too weird, I'm desperate!

Okay so no one had any ideas but we made due with whatever my brain could muster.  My son loved his party and I can up with some things for them to do (some worked, some just got ditched because it was like 100 degrees and windy).
Here's his cake (first attempt at frozen buttercream transfer)

His costume, that he didn't wear because it was too too hot.

I set up some archery (or bones and arrows as my dear boy says) and slingshot targets with things from the games--we ditched the whole hunt for rupies they started to blow away in the wind.

And the birthday boy...never without a sword down the back of his shirt "like link mom"

Good fun.
