31  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Gypsy Melody Decoupage(update Now with gold added!!! 10/4) on: October 01, 2007 03:35:26 PM

A friend gave me two end tables that she didn't want any more. They are very sturdy, but the paint was chipped and just not "me"

Sanded and "Kilzed"

I took advice from fellow craftsters and added gold trim-I think it "pops" it out better now.
New pics with gold trim

I sanded it then painted a few coats of a pale yellow latex I had in my paint stash. The music is from about 1905-My father gave me a bunch of old sheet music years ago. I put the cover on the top and the music on the drawer and one side. Then I glued an old toy wooden viol that I've had sitting around forever. I polyurethaned it several times.
I really like it now-it's more me!! Also-the viol has been cleaned up a little-it's not "drippy" like in the pic Roll Eyes
32  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Rosemary...for Remembrance Altered assemblage on: September 19, 2007 09:43:28 AM
I am very excited and nervous because I get to be in a group show in Nov. Most of the other artists are urban ,edgy types and my art isn't quite like that. This is an assemblage I'm showing. It's made of an old lantern, rusted screen, hemp, photograph, wood, paper ephemera, seashells and ink.I'm not sure if it shows well in these photos.

34  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects / Rust never sleeps-a recycled mobile-wind chime on: September 14, 2007 02:28:57 PM

This is a windchime I made from rusted tin cans, hemp and various bits of metal that I turned into the clappers, including old spoons.

It actually has quite a nice sound. I originally made a bell for the Trash to Treasure swap out of an old rusted pail and a rusty spoon, but I didn't have any more rusty pails, so decided to rust some tins I had Smiley

If youre sending a package to another country, or if you dont reside in the United States, please save your receipts!  Remember to send the DCN info to your swap partner and the organizer,Balkandina

Shipping Tip For US Residents: The USPS requires that the package measures at least thick for a DCN if you don't use priority mail.  If your package is too flat, it might be necessary to bulk up the package with a couple of plastic grocery bags to get the DCN!

Shipping Tip for Sending TO Canada: Canadian Customs really, really likes getting their cut ($5 handling fee plus taxes on the declared value). Please remember to mark your customs form with gift and NCV (No Commercial Value) or NA (Not Applicable) when sending to Canada.

For US swappers sending to Canada: The name of the form is Custom Declaration CN-22 (PS Form 2976) and is green and white. But you have to fill it out at the post office, you can't get it off the USPS website.

2. It is important to communicate with your partners and the organizer.  You must let the organizer and your partner know when you have shipped, received or may be late! You are  responsible for sending out the swap package in a timely manner!

3. I will be leaving feedback based on communication and shipping. Theres no way to over-communicate with me.

36  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects / Faux water feature and more funkrustico yard art IMG HVY on: August 28, 2007 09:09:35 AM
I lust for all of the water features, ponds, etc,,, everyone has, but really couldn't afford it this year. I've just started a new garden room in my narrow side yard-so here's some more funkrustico stuff I've cobbled together. Oh, yeah, there are some plants, too Tongue

This is an old brass bowl with dragonflies on it that I got for $1 at a thrift store. It's on top of a log from tree that was cut down near my house and I scavenged.(I soaked it in bleach to clean out any bad stuff

birdseye view

I put a flat rock on top of another log to arrange sacred objects

A mobile-I kind of see an angel in it Smiley

An old salvaged Christmas tree with some worn ceramic pieces
37  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Goodwill art into Collage on: August 25, 2007 11:05:08 PM
I collect old paintings from thrift stores. I like to think that I rescue them, because at some point someone loved the picture-even if some people might think it's tacky/simple/crude. Anyway-for the Trash to Treasure swap I took one of my collection and collaged some old coloring book and textbook pictures on it. My swap partner lives on a small farm so I called it "Phyllis and Katie have Fun on Their Farm."
38  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Blocked out bench!! IMG HVY on: August 25, 2007 07:55:43 PM

I bought a plain cedar bench for my porch, but wanted to add to it. Cedar turns a nice natural grey on its own, but not in my very dry Rocky Mountain climate. It can crack if you don't treat it or paint it.
First I Used Kilz then I dry painted it with green latex-that way I got a streaky look.

I had bought a box of old children's puzzle blocks at the flea market for $2 a few months ago and I was awaiting for a use to come to me. So I added them with E600 glue. It's bright and usable and fits in at Chez Funkrustico.
39  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Paper/Ephemera Swap Round 7??? on: August 23, 2007 01:05:57 PM
SOme people think that it's time for another round. I'd be willing to organize again (call me crazy Roll Eyes ).
We would swap 9x12 envelopes of paper and ephemera. People mailing from US to most countries pay about $9.00 for a global priority mailer.
Here's the galleries from the last swaps. It's really a lot of fun and you don't actually have to craft so it's a quicker turnaround. I got loads of cool stuff last round from Australia and Sweden.
I'm interested in having signups in about 2 weeks
40  UNITED STATES / Colorado / ATC Exchange-Colorado Springs/Manitou Springs on: August 18, 2007 05:18:00 PM
Thought people would like to know that there is a monthly ATC exchange at the Business of Art Center in Manitou now. I believe it's every 3rd Saturday from 10-1 for making them and then an exchange at 2.
