31  Kiki Montparnasse and Man Ray not very cuddly doll in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by balkandina on: October 10, 2007 07:49:04 PM
So...hmmm....I keep looking at all these terrific soft toys and I'm wondering whether to post...what the hay-here she is Kiki De Montparnasse metal and paper art doll Smiley

I had been trying to think of something to make with a Kiki
theme for a friend who is a huge fan of hers , so when I saw this challenge, it seemed to fit.
This is the original  art I took inspiration from -it's called Le Violon d'Ingres.
It is one of my favourite photographs and I love Man Ray
Kiki is wearing a little paper cone hat because once she was going into a fancy restaurant and the snooty maitre'd said she wasn't dressed correctly because she had no hat, so she took some paper and made a cone hat and everyone adored it!
Probably not a good toy to give to children under three SmileyTongue

34  Log +old chair==funkrustico throne!! in Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects by balkandina on: October 05, 2007 04:20:51 PM
SO I had some old logs
see https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=192874.0
and if you've seen any of my other  posts you might notice I have a thing for old chairs.
Put the two together and voila-a wonderful addition to the Chez Funkrustico back yard. Or maybe the front-I could sit and observe life on the block Grin

37  On the Road-decoupage homage to Kerouac through a kid's footstool!!! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by balkandina on: October 04, 2007 12:15:48 PM
This is the 50th anniversary of Jack Kerouac's On the Road. I had a beat up little footstool and I was looking through my old children's books and found this story about a car that went west. Voila-decoupaged book stand now!!

38  Gypsy Melody Decoupage(update Now with gold added!!! 10/4) in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by balkandina on: October 01, 2007 03:35:26 PM

A friend gave me two end tables that she didn't want any more. They are very sturdy, but the paint was chipped and just not "me"

Sanded and "Kilzed"

I took advice from fellow craftsters and added gold trim-I think it "pops" it out better now.
New pics with gold trim

I sanded it then painted a few coats of a pale yellow latex I had in my paint stash. The music is from about 1905-My father gave me a bunch of old sheet music years ago. I put the cover on the top and the music on the drawer and one side. Then I glued an old toy wooden viol that I've had sitting around forever. I polyurethaned it several times.
I really like it now-it's more me!! Also-the viol has been cleaned up a little-it's not "drippy" like in the pic Roll Eyes

But my "favoritest"-lots of scrap paper just right for ATCs or edging.

Thanks sooo much. I went out to Office Depot and bought more bankers boxes and 150 manila file folders to start getting all my stash in order finally...well, I'm gonna try.

40  Re: Garden thru the season shots?? in Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions by balkandina on: September 27, 2007 11:48:18 AM
Thought I'd bring in the fall garden shots since yesterday was the harvest moon Grin

The end of the 3 sisters garden. I have several australian pumpkin squash, a few baby boo pumpkins-had a lot of purple queen beans- a few dozen ears of corn, some peppers, three cabbages and calendula, nasturtium and zinnias. Notice how the vines decided to climb the tree! Also there is a volunteer cherry tomato.

The herb garden which I am cutting back today-Sage, lavender sage, chives, rosemary, tarragon, lovage. I'll make butters from them to freeze and dry some.

I've propped up the 2 mammoth sunflowers-I'm hoping the squirrels will be happy with all of the small ones I let them have and allow these seeds to ripen Undecided

Australian Blue pumpkin that decided to grow in a tree

Leeks..I'm waiting for a light frost to make them tastier. I started them from seed last spring

Still getting a lot of basil and green beans
It's interesting to compare with the first pictures I posted last spring!
