1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Colour-Blocked Dress (aka Bond Girl) on: November 18, 2013 12:42:02 PM
This dress has had some serious identity issues in its short lifetime. When I first designed and made it, it just seemed to scream, "I am clearly cruise wear and you should treat me as such." But two photoshoots with virtually no usable content, I knew that it was just lying to itself and to me. "No, dress, you are not cruise wear after all. However, you are a little short and a little sassy and very eye-catching with your colour-blocking. Of course. You should be adorning a '60s bond girl. Also, I'm going to stop trying to accessorize you because that's really not helping." And, finally, it worked:

My boyfriend's lovely cousin was kind enough to model for me.
Only two photos right now, but I'll try to get a few more edited and add them when I can. Smiley

It's main features are the colour-blocking, the exposed zipper up the back, and it's notched jewel collar. The neckline and armholes are faced, as well as both white panels, as they were a bit too sheer to leave as single layers.
The orangey-red fabric is really hard to describe - in the photos, it looks almost red and, in person, I've heard everything from straight orange to bright red - but I think it's closer to an orange coral colour. Amusingly enough, when I brought the fabrics in, my teacher looked at me like I was crazy because she just couldn't see how they'd work together. I'm glad she was wrong. Tongue

Let me know what you think! Would you rather wear it on a glamorous cruise or to do some kick-ass secret spy mission a la Honey Ryder or Pussy Galore?

This is absolutely fabulous! It's basically the perfect combination of fancy formal and playfully adorable. I think it's a lovely take on chocolate_Jo's original dress. Smiley
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Pleated Sweet-Heart Dress (aka Free Love) on: November 13, 2013 07:52:49 PM
Named for its delightful paisley-ish heart pattern. <3

I just graduated and realized that I haven't posted any of my finished work here for almost a year! And that's just really not okay. I promise to slowly bombard you, though, rather than posting everything at once, haha.

I picked this fabric up at Fabricland years ago and had been saving it for "just the right project." Ie. I was too afraid to use it for anything, haha. But then we had a draping assignment and it started right around Valentine's Day and I was bummed about not having a cute dress to wear this year, so all I could think about was sweetheart necklines, the colour red, and adorable prints. It was finally time for the paisley heart print fabric.

My friend/classmate was kind enough to model for me in a photoshoot we did in August, as she looks good in everything I've made.

Here's my original design (During construction I decided the bow was a little too much):

The dress features a sweetheart neckline with gathering at the bust, a separate bodice panel to remove the need for front darts, and a pleated A-line skirt. The straps and back are one piece, so the straps only needed to be attached at the front. I lined the bodice with the same red cotton I used in the pleats (which I adore, btw) so there's a little flash of red around the straps when they shift. I also pressed the pleats so that they're always open.

And a shot of me in the dress from an earlier photoshoot, just because it's nice to have made something in school that I can actually wear (the trick is to "accidentally" switch a mannequin that's your size when you realize it's a possibility). This shot is a recreation of a pin-up photo done at the store owner's request.

I may not have finished the dress in time for Valentine's Day last year, but I'm ready for 2014. Smiley
I'd love to hear what you think of it.

I found my camera cord! It only took, like, a week and a half, haha. Now brace yourselves for a landslide of total awesomeness!

(Almost) everything all together:

I totally forgot to take a photo of the (Rainicorn/Monichromicorn) scarf in action, but it looks really cool on. I'll have to make a mental note to take a photo next time I'm out. Agh, and I just realized I didn't take any close-ups of the awesome Buttercup-themed necklace either! Apparently, I'm not very good at this.
Well, here's everything I did take close-ups of...

I got these totally butt-kickingly amazing arm warmers in Buttercup colours. Can you believe GrindHouseHussy is just learning to crochet? I can't!

Then there's is super cool Marceline painting! It's has already found a home on my wall.

I also got this great little trinket box in Science the rat colours!

And the box was full of all of these great buttons! I have a purse dedicated to awesome buttons, so it's definitely got some new additions coming to it. Grin

These magnets were also in the box (and are now making my fridge 200% cooler).

Here's a better shot of the framed magnetic picture of Marceline and Finn (I really love this picture!)

Finally, if you can believe everything else wasn't enough, I also received a whole bunch of extras!

My Little Pony stickers!

Some really neat beads and a super cool key chain (I don't know how you knew I'd love this, but I really really do!)

Not pictured is a fleece cat toy that my boys immediately confiscated. I'm not quite sure where they've hidden it, lol.

In short, spoiled cannot even begin to describe how I feel. :3

Wah! Everyone made such cool stuff! I love that nook case; it looks like it was definitely worth the trouble. Smiley

Sorry I haven't posted pics yet. My camera cord has decided to disappear. That, combined with finally getting sick (after six months of being illness free, boo) has made me completely useless, it seems. If I can't find the cord tomorrow, I'll just have to resort to taking pictures with my phone.

I've managed to finish up a medium item and am almost done with what I consider a small. Just one more to go, but it's the complicated one.

I'm actually beyond amazed at myself right now because I'm usually a huge procrastinator. We'll have to see how smoothly this last item goes, haha.
