1  one skein scarf in Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller by TurtleGrrrl on: February 17, 2007 12:47:48 PM
I made this over winter break, but haven't been able to wear it more than once, due to the fact that it immediately got too cold to wear anything but a serious scarf after I made it.  It's really cute and I made it way too long (after first making it way too SHORT! grr), but I can't wait to wear it.  I used a discontinued color of Lion Cotton something that I got at the giant Smiley's Yarn sale in NYC - a bag for like $2! can't beat that.  Anyway...

the requisite bathroom mirror shot (bf is away for the weekend)

2  sparkly fat bottom in Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller by TurtleGrrrl on: February 10, 2007 02:04:23 PM
I made this for a friend for her birthday around Christmas.  Way back when I'd asked for some swanky yarn suggestions to go with these black & silver handles - thanks to someone (I forget who! sorry!) I went with Patons Brilliant in the black sparkly (I used the flash in the pics to show the sparkle).  Used it double stranded as suggested, and lined the bag in a black cotton poplin.  Lining it took forever, but I think it was worth it.  The pictures don't do it justice, it came out really pretty and my friend loved it.  Of course I waited until the last minute so I didn't have time to get some ribbon or a brooch to jazz it up.  I taught her to crochet about a year ago (lefty no less!! Luckily I'm ambidextrous so it wasn't horrendous), so I bought her SNBHH too so she can branch out from baby blankets and scarves...

3  Re: Circular Shrug- created by keridana, julsey723, guessica, and others... in Knitalongs by TurtleGrrrl on: February 10, 2007 01:51:41 PM
I just started this shrug... I'm very nervous, since I've never made anything besides a rectangular scarf!!  But I figured I'd dive in, since I've been making scarves for a year and it's getting a little old.  I'm just using some teal red heart soft yarn; I didn't want to invest in something expensive when I didn't even know if I'd be able to finish it.  I've never cast on this many stitches before!  This is my progress since last night - it looks wonky b/c I can't my circulars (bought especially for this project!) to stay straight since they're new.  I'm a VERY slow knitter, so this will be a many month project, but hopefully will provide some sanity as I work full time and go to grad school full time as well (yes, I am a woman that can do it all!  or so I keep telling myself).

5  Re: 5 Senses Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by TurtleGrrrl on: August 28, 2006 05:05:25 PM
I received from polarity girl; a whole bunch of awesome stuff!  I wish I could have taken more pictures but my camera battery died & I wanted to post.

My color was blue... first, a picture of the lot of it:

There was a beautiful knit scarf, an awesome painting, some organic dried blueberries (very tasty! I already sampled... I have no self control), a blue aromatherapy pillow, and Miles Davis' Kind of Blue album (which is awesome b/c I also play trumpet).

Close up of the painting:

To get a better idea of the color of the scarf:

I love it all!

6  my amazing stuff! lots of pics in The Swap Gallery by TurtleGrrrl on: August 04, 2006 03:41:31 PM
So, today I got home, and there was nothing in my mailbox.  And I was sad, because I've been dying to see what my partner made me.  I sit down to watch the depressing news on tv, and then the doorbell rings.  Confused, I run downstairs to see who it is, as I'm not expecting anyone... there's no one there when I open the door, so I look around, and there's my package from Sunnysparkler!!!!

OMG, I love my stuff!!  I got a bunch of wonderful things from my awesome partner.  Take a look, you'll be jealous!!

Enjoying the soft, cozy scarf she knit me (in front of my AC, it's 90 degrees out!)

Here's a better look at the scarf... I love the yarn & it's so toasty!  I always need scarves for walking around in NYC in winter, the wind gets nasty near where I work.

The adorable tote that must have taken FOREVER to make - you have amazing patience!

I can't wait to show this to my bf, partially because she included the pin on the handle, which says "I am special" - my bf teases me because I still have a pin from kindergarten that says "My name is Christine and I'm special", so he'll get a kick out of it!

Now, I'm sure you all had no idea, but I REALLY like turtles.  No, I mean seriously, it's an obsession.  I have turtle everything, and I still love getting more.  So Sunnysparkler's additions to my collection of turtle stuff is awesome!  Check out the paperweight and the sculpey magnets she made:

He has an awesome eyepatch, hehehehe!

She even put a red eared slider sticker on the tin for the magnets!  Note the great job she did making a koopa!

Thank you so much Kara!

7  Re: come one! come all! post pics of your tattoos! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by TurtleGrrrl on: July 15, 2006 11:54:26 AM
All of these tattoos are so beautiful and inspiring! I'm going to get inked the first time in October, with either the word "Pride" on my wrist in cursive or a tree, but I don't know where I'd want the tree.

My question to the tattoo veterans is: where does it hurt the least to get inked?

i've heard that any where near the spinal cord or a bone is where it hurts the most.

mine is over my lower spine and branches out onto my ribs and parts of it hurt.  for me, it was weird because going over one side of my spine hurt more than the other.  and because it was low on my back, sometimes it would make my whole body shake a little when she went over my spine.  for perspective, my bf has 4, one on each shoulder, one in the middle of his back, then one large one going lengthwise over his lower back.  The only one that was horrendously painful for him was the lower back one, though it was also the most intricate and took the longest, so that was certainly part of it too!  Here are some pics:

Mine (this pic makes it look small b/c it's cropped, but it's rather big)

I don't love how the heart came out, someday I'll get it fixed... it was hard to tell when I first got it because I have a skin condition called graphitis and my skin gets super red & inflamed (like an allergic reaction) when I get any sort of scratch, so you can imagine how it looked after having a needle go over it so many times!!

My bf's

3 of his (the non-cobra ones) were designed especially for him with an amazing artist, he is awesome.

Eventually I'm going to get another, I've always planned on that, I just can't decide whether I want a realistic looking turtle or a tribal honu symbol.  and where to put it!!

8  baby sweater and blanket in Crochet: Completed Projects by TurtleGrrrl on: July 13, 2006 04:18:28 PM
I made these back in April, but forgot about them... I make way too much baby stuff.  People need to stop procreating so I can make grown up things!!!

Baby blanket... I loved how it came out, but I will never use this pattern again... way too many yarn changes.

And a baby sweater... I have no idea what size it came out b/c the sizing just seemed really weird for the pattern.  I made the 9 mos size, figuring that the baby would be about that size by the time of year s/he'd wear it.  Though now I know it's a he... do you all think this color's okay for a boy??

I sewed that button on like a mofo... ain't no babies choking 'cause of me!

9  the ever popular fat bottom bag in Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller by TurtleGrrrl on: July 01, 2006 02:00:34 PM
I finally got around to making something from this book, and I wanted something I could finish quickly because I've been working on a particular baby blanket for what seems like months and I really needed a break (and to see SOMEthing completed!).  So I worked up this fat bottom bag in some turquoise sugar & cream I had lying around the house.  The handles I had were a little wider than your average circular ones but they are so pretty b/c they are cherry wood... so I added 2 rows on each side to the handle flap.  I might ditch the brooch (it randomly came with a shirt of mine) and just thread some white satin ribbon through, and I definitely intend to line this so I can put in a magnetic snap, but I was just too excited to finish something that I had to post it.

(pardon all the crap in the background)

10  Chenille Granny Square blanket in Crochet: Completed Projects by TurtleGrrrl on: February 03, 2006 08:28:15 PM
BF's mom & grandma are HORRIBLE to buy gifts for; they have no hobbies, don't go out, really don't do much besides cook, clean & watch tv and we've kind of exhausted those gifts.  So, this year I decided to make a blanket for grandma, who is always cold; I put in the labor, bf bought most of the yarn.  The blanket ended up REALLY heavy - I used chenille thick & quick and alternated the colors.  I finished it literally on Christmas eve (and didn't have time to do a nice all around border), but it all worked out!

This image is kind of dark
