21  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Blue Topaz Ring! Well....3 of them.... on: April 24, 2006 09:02:13 PM
So here are 3 blue topaz rings that i made (well, i got a hell of a lot of help from my teacher because I kept melting the prongs)....

My boyfriends brother had been taking a break from his duties in Afghanistan and picked up the topaz in Dubai...Their sister is getting married this summer and I thought she may need something blue....I just thought it might be special to have something handmade and then it's extra special because her brother bought the stones....so there is one for her, one for her mom and one for....moi.

comments? (I already know that I didn't do the greatest job!)

22  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Sterling Assymetric Ring - LotsaPics on: March 20, 2006 08:32:41 PM
This is what I finished in my class tonight....

Another wax carved ring...This time I dug out a bunch of the wax inside of the oval, which I left a bit "textured" (it's not the way I wanted and looks rather wonky, but it'll do), then I put some silver blackener into it, polished and voila!

23  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / "New" OMG Ring on: March 12, 2006 09:04:26 AM
Not Oh My God, but Organic Metal Gallery...

This ring was carved in wax first, then polished etc...I put something called "Ceram-it" in the divits to add some colour, but it is starting to chip away (I don't think it's because of the product, but because I'm just so darn hard on jewellery!)

Take classes at OMG!

i love that !!!  Cheesy

cant believe you actually made it !!!

how long did it take and how much did it cost you to make ? Huh

Well, taking the class costs the most of course!
The wax carving doesn't take too long.
It was a time where I just picked it up and did it and didn't think about what I wanted it to look like. So I spent 1/2 a class carving (probably a little more) a class is about 2.5 hours.
Then I leave it there for my wicked awesome teacher to fire the wax and then fill the mold with silver. When I come in to the next class, I have this beautiful thing covered in white uck and bubbles. That's when you go to town on sanding and polishing
It's cast in a centerfuge (sp?) so the divits ended up getting filled with silver too, but the outline was there, so I drilled the silver back out. I wore it for a couple of months before I finally put the colour on it.
So in all it probably took me about 5 or 6 hours to make (but I didn't have to do the casting etc...)....

24  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Loop-d-loop Sweater With Buckle on: February 06, 2006 07:25:49 PM
Hi Guys -

i've got the loop-d-loop cardigan with buckle pattern and a whole arse-load of Manos.

I CANNOT figure out the twisted stich that is called for in the pattern. I keep creating stiches rather than twisting....I don't know what I'd doing wrong.

2nd questions - if I'm knitting on circulars, why does the pattern call for purl rows? (yeah I know - beginner much?)

Help I yelp!

25  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / A BUNCH of new Neckalces!! Lots'o'Images on: January 08, 2006 11:18:08 AM

dyed mother of pearl and glass tear drops on sterling chain

I haven't got a clue what kind of stone that is....but it's purdy...with small clear seed beads lined in blue on silk ribbon

just good old yummy catseye (I really really like catseye) on sterling chain....
26  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / First knitting project ever! A sweater! on: December 31, 2005 12:47:45 PM
I'm kinda proud of myself for a first ever knitting project. I used the Yarn Girls Guide to Baby Knits and made this cardigan for my baby niece. The instructions were easy to follow (except for crochet!) and here it is! I made it for a year old (thinking that it would take me that long) so it's a bit big for her...

27  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Same Old Bracelet, Different Colours on: December 23, 2005 11:10:11 AM

28  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Spirals are Easy! Bracelet & earrings on: October 17, 2005 09:00:49 PM
So I just had my friend Kristin over for some beading action; she's only done one stringing project - but look what she's done! Spirals are easy (I've got two other posts where people said they're are a little afraid of them - but you can do it!). Kristin spent 10 minutes learning how to make this, and then did the whole thing all by her lonesome. (You would't believe how small this chicks wrists are!)

Yay Kristin!

Then I thought I should make her some earrings to match...
