1  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / My version of the Chinese Charm Bag on: April 10, 2006 03:09:03 PM
Here is my version, although I haven't added a "charm." The handles are molded plastic with a funky twist. I couldn't find any real bamboo handles for reasonable price, and I didn't like the fakey bamboo ones. The yarn is Red Heart Farmland, nice autumn colors. The lining (see second photo) is from recycled navy boxer shorts (clean!) with matching color. The lining images are State shapes and names..

2  UNITED STATES / Hawaii / Where can I buy bamboo handles in Honolulu? on: March 31, 2006 04:09:57 PM
anyone know where i can buy bamboo handles - for a bag - around Honolulu?

Ben Franklins (Mkt city) sells a pair, only about 5.99 but made of PLASTIC, fake bamboo that looks really fake! I was hoping for the real bamboo.

any ideas?
3  UNITED STATES / Hawaii / Definitive Guide for Buying Craft Stuff in Honolulu (ADD info &YOUR reviews) on: March 05, 2006 02:02:26 PM
Hey Hawaii Craftsters!!! Let's make a Definitive Guide for Buying Craft stuff in Honolulu! - where is the best place to buy stuff?   Cheesy

there are a couple of helpful threads about where to buy fabric, crafting supplies (thx to pinkbird and others Wink), but I think it would be helpful to compile a list of everyone's favorite places for Honolulu, and have it in one spot.

Please reply with your favorite yarn stores, craft supply stores, salvage or secondhand places, and other ideas for getting crafting materials here in Honolulu. I will compile the names and locations, and reviews from your posts, after a while, so we can have one big list and don't have to read through a bunch of threads...which are still good to have, but one list would be good for QUICK REFERENCE!

Please be specific as you can about name, location (i.e. cross streets) and if you know other stuff, include it (like basic operating hours, selection, friendly operators, locally owned, etc) and share your experience (kind of like a mini review). If you already posted info in another thread, please repost it here so we can add it all in one spot... thx!  Grin

Here's what I compiled so far from the threads:
Yarn Stores:
Isle Knit - Beretania and Bishop, 14th floor of the Century Bldg, local yarn store
Craft Supply of Honolulu (where is it? is it on King and something?)
Ben Franklin, Market City Shopping, off Kaimuki and Kapiolani blvd, national chain but locally owned/operated (?).
-I'm always frustrated about getting knitting needles here though, they never seem to have the size I need  Huh
other Ben Franklins..?

Goodwill Surplus - 1533 Kalani (Nimitz area), 845-1071 (thx to pink bird)

Fabric Stores:
Fabric Mart, on Kalakaua between King and Kapiolani. (comments?)

Other sections??

4  UNITED STATES / Hawaii / Ribbon Leis? on: February 03, 2006 11:23:39 AM
Just wondering if anyone has made ribbon leis?

I saw the demonstrations by "auntie" Mellie Enos at Market City ben franklin.. it seemed really easy, so I got her book ... but haven't tried to make one yet and in fact, I got really confused..  I was thinking it's a nice DIY Hawaii project to take back to family on the mainland since can't bring flower leis...and  also since flower leis are so expensive to buy!

If anyone has played with making these, can you post some pics and comments?

Thanx!  Cheesy
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Whatever happened to Craft Corner Deathmatch? on: February 02, 2006 11:44:22 AM
Does anyone have any insights into what happened to that crazy contest show Craft Corner Deathmatch which was airing on the Style network?  It seems to have been cancelled b/c I haven't found any more showings of it!

I thought it was really hilarious and bizarre ... and it helped re-invigorate my interest in all things crafty!!!! I read some posts that one or more craftster.org members had competed on the show.

The (former?) host Jason Jones on the Colbert report last night... as a news anchor

Wonder what the Craft Lady of Steel is doing now?
