Maybe one of these could give you a good basis for what you are looking for. I heard rumor that simplicity patterns are on sale for $1 at joanns and hancocks this week too! Beautiful dress. Good luck and when you make it you must post pics! Wink

22  Re: Purple corduroy bodice, huzzah! in Costumes: Completed Projects by freegrrl2000 on: February 18, 2007 05:20:17 PM

Here she is! It's McCalls 4340. I made a 20 (I wear a rtw 14) And it came out too big.. I would definately make it again, but I would change the bottom of the front to be a bit pointier. I also added boning, which it didn't call for. Oh, and it is out of print Sad I found mine on ebay. Oh, and thankd dyno! I know that some people are really uptight about historically accurate garb. Just covering my bases! Thanks for the nice compliments!

23  GRRRRRRRRRR! African animal print scrub top! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by freegrrl2000 on: February 18, 2007 04:38:50 PM
Hi! I am going to school to be a vet tech and this is the third scrub top I have made. The first one was a disaster, the second one awesome (I used the medium pattern for the second, large for first) and the third one, not so bad! Unfortunately I seem to have misplaced the medium sized pieces so I made a large again and ended up putting ties at the waist to pull it in a little but all in all it fits pretty well. I did a little bias tape on the pocket and french seams throughout (oh Santa, why didn't you bring me a serger like I asked?) Anyhoo, here it is! Ciao.

24  Purple corduroy bodice, huzzah! in Costumes: Completed Projects by freegrrl2000 on: February 18, 2007 04:28:51 PM
I made this little puppy with ren-fest in mind. I know it isn't period appropriate, and I know purple isn't a good color for faire, but I loved the fabric (eggplant corduroy with diamonds on it) and wanted to try the pattern. It is lined with white satiny stuff, fully boned, and had cream and gold trim. I love it, alas I need more boobage to make it fit right (the back lacing is a bit funny). I only messed up one little part when installing the lacing, other than that it came out pretty clean. Do you guys think I could sell something like this? and for how much... On to the pics... the front, back, and closeup of the fabric. Thanks for looking! Wink

25  Vintage barkcloth purse-lette! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by freegrrl2000 on: February 18, 2007 04:16:11 PM
I have a bunch of vintage barkcloth and decided that I should actually do something with it. This little bag is about 9-10 inches accross and 8 inches tall. It has a white lining and a pretty satin bow trim.

Do you guys think I could sell stuff like this? and if so for how much? Thanks for looking!

26  Lovely lizard scrub top! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by freegrrl2000 on: May 29, 2006 04:24:15 PM
Hi all! I love this site and I am blown away by the talent of everyone on here! I work at an animal hospital and I decided to make a lovely lizard scrub top as 1) I haven't found a lizard scrub top pre-made anywhere
2) Most scrub tops are suited to nurses and don't have animals on them and the one's that are cute are pricey 3) I LOVE lizards!!! I used a simplicity pattern, walmart cheapy fabric (alas, not from the $1 table!) and about two hours later...Viola!

Here is also a pic of my topsy turvy tomato planter which I was inspired to make by a tute on here and I fondly refer to as my tomato corset! Thanks everyone for your inspiration! Smiley

I love your beardie! And the gecko is adorable. Does he have two tails in the pic towards the end? And the snake... Is the second one a red tail? They are all amazing!

Here is my beardie Valentine. We should hook them up! Smiley

28  Re: patchwork advice and sites? in Discussion and Questions by freegrrl2000 on: March 01, 2006 05:39:12 PM
You might want to try strip piecing. It would work for the first dress. You sew strips of fabric together, then you cut them into rectangles so that each color is a perfect square within the rectangle plus the amount you would allow for a seam to sew it to other pieces. Then you sew each strip to the other strips, offsetting the squares so that they form a patern.Sort of like this.
To complete each strip so that they are the same length as one another sew a square on the end before sewing the strips of squares together. Once you have enough you can sew on the top or bodice to make a dress. Look on here for hippie dress or apron dress and I thnk you will find something. Also, the best way to cut these quickly is with a rotary cutter, like a really sharp pizza cutter, and a special mat to use it on. Both can be bought at a fabric store or any department store with a craft section. Good luck!

29  Re: **TUTORIAL** slouchy hobo bag (the tinafish way) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by freegrrl2000 on: February 01, 2006 05:53:10 PM
Hi everyone! I finally joined after snooping for like a year. Everyone's creations are so fantastic and a bit intimidating at times too! Anyhoo, I tried this purse and it came out pretty well. I used vintage barkcloth for the outside and plain heather-y brown cotton for the inside. I think that it needs some embellishing, but I have no Idea with what! Hope you like!
