1  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Poncho and Hat for my niece on: September 28, 2006 10:33:54 AM
I made a poncho and hat for my nieces' 5th b-day.  This is my first time doing a poncho and a hat.  I think they came out all right for a first timer.  Although I did make a mistake on the poncho pattern.  I did something too many times in one row which made the poncho really ruffly(sp?), but I hope she likes it anyway.
I used the Lacy Shell poncho pattern and Granny Skull Cap from http://www.luv2crochet.com/freepatterns.html

Hat: My husband suggested putting the flower on the top of the hat and I really liked that idea.  What do you think?

I cannot remember what website I got the flower pattern from.
I used Red Heart super saver yarn.
Sorry for all the pics, was having fun with the digi cam.

What do you gals/guys think?

2  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / yarn question... on: August 21, 2006 04:32:45 AM
Hi everyone,

I'm moving from crocheting scarves to other items now.  I would like to make the Lacy Shell poncho found here: http://www.luv2crochet.com/freepatterns.html

She uses TLC Cara Mia yarn, which is an angora/acrylic blend yarn.  I'll be crocheting this for my nieces who are being raised vegan by their vegan parents and I would like the yarn to be animal free.  The pattern says you can use any medium worsted weight yarn.

Any suggestions as to brands equivalent to the TLC Cara Mia?  I'm still learning the differences in yarn weights and plys and worsted/baby/fingering etc.  All of which confuse the hell out of me.  Undecided   Huh

Thanks ahead of time for your help!

This website is awesome!

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Made some Nintendo X-Stitch Patterns on: July 29, 2006 04:14:10 AM
Hi everyone,

I was inspired by some of the Mario X-Stitch patterns created here, so I made a few of my own and wanted to share with you guys.  I hope the pics came out OK as I had to make them much smaller to fit.  My original patterns are triple the size!  I wanted big patterns to use, to make gifts for my brother.

Let me know what you think!

This one is a Portal Opening from one of the Mario Games, I don't remember which one.  But my brother always liked it!

Here's Goomba

Here's Cheep Cheep

And finally Bowser- For some reason when I saved him, his bottom half color changed  slightly.

Hope you guys like them and use them.  Show pics of what you make!
I'm off to make some more.  I'm addicted!!!
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Protecting paper pattern/working with corduroy on: August 18, 2005 07:59:58 AM
Hi all!

I'm hoping you can help me.  Never working with a sewing pattern or corduroy before, I have a few questions.

I purchased Simplicity Pattern #4712, http://www.simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=4712
I want to make the coat for my daughter using burgundy corduroy.  My daughter is only nine months old, but I feel in love with the style of the coat and just have to make it!

How do I keep the pattern paper from tearing and also protect save for future use?
When sewing with corduroy, are there any special rules or steps that need to be taken?

I think that's all for now, I'm sure I'll have more questions as the day goes on.

Take Care!

6  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Square bit from The Gates, NYC on: April 02, 2005 05:10:33 PM
Hi all!

I got a piece of the Saffron colored material that was being given out from The Gates in Central Park, NYC.  I really don't know what to/can make out of it.
It's about  3 inches by 3 inches.  Great color and texture.

Any Ideas?
7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / thread conversion on: March 30, 2005 06:24:54 AM

I recently received a cross sticth magazine from my sister in law from England.  There is a project that I would like to do but the thread is by Madeira.  My local craft shop only carries DMC.  Does anyone know of a conversion chart/list from Madeira to DMC?  Any help/suggestions would be truly helpful.

Thanks ahead of time,
8  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Crochet Kitchen Curtains? on: March 29, 2005 11:17:20 AM
Hi all!

Does anyone know of or have any patterns for crochet kitchen curtains?  I've searched online but only came up with filet crochet patterns, which I'm not too familiar with.

I need something that is aliitle thick to blur the view but would still let light through.  In the apartment that I rent, the kitchen window is in the driveway and it is a very busy driveway.  With the owners son and friends going in and out, and the above neighbors grand kids running around.  I feel like there is no privacy!

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks ahead of time,
9  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Need Easy Baby Poncho Pattern on: September 14, 2004 12:46:20 PM
Hi all!

I am due to have a baby girl in the middle of November and want to crochet a baby poncho.  I need an easy pattern as I am somewhat of a beginner.  I tend to crochet then stop for a few months then start again.
I found a few patterns online but I believe one of them had a mistake that I could not correct myself and the others I have found have been way too complicated/or not the right size.
I already crocheted a baby shawl with matching bonnet and booties.  But I am looking for something for her arms to go through.  AM I making sense?  Can anyone help?
Thanks ahead of time.  Take Care.
