481  Re: Inchies exchange! Signups CLOSED; send by Feb. 1 in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by Homerof2 on: January 01, 2008 01:58:06 PM
From the beginning I wanted to make my inchies with fabric because that's what I work with best and so I did some searching and found an idea (then someone else posted a whole bunch of other ideas!)  I won't do all 50 with fabric because I really had fun making the Archie ones and want to do more of that kind.  Anyway, here's some progress pictures.

A piece of fabric with ribbons sewn on in a random pattern:

then, fused onto denim, cut and sewn, a few hours later, the 23 squares that came out of this:

Wow, I never realized how small 1" squares were until I was trying to zig zag around them!

I was playing around this afternoon trying to make some inchies and thought I would post my first few tries on here to see what people have to say.  BE HONEST - is this what they are supposed to be, are these too plain, etc.  I really want comments as I've never done this before.

I have a totally different idea I'm also going to try with fabric and, if they work, that's what I'll probably end up doing but I also wanted to know if something like this would work.  Remember, be honest, it's not going to hurt my feelings!   Grin

483  Re: Ongoing Wish Swap 29 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Homerof2 on: December 26, 2007 03:21:05 PM
So, here it is, December 26th (Boxing Day here in Canada!) and I just realized that I haven't even looked at the gallery for this swap.  So, I looked through all 3 pages (yeah, it was hard to see Dulcinea's feet so many times in such a few pages  Grin ) and realized the item I sent to gatheredthreads wasn't posted yet and I decided to do so.

She wanted something to celebrate her new first name, which she recently officially changed.  What better than a book mark - not only will it remind her what page she's on while reading, it will also remind her of her new name, just in case she forgets  Grin

Shocked  after telling all of you to remember to post pictures of what you had received, I just realized this morning that I hadn't posted what my second partner sent me.  My excuse - I took the pictures on hubby's camera and he took it to his work truck.  Today I got him to leave it home so I could post.

This is what Moose_hat sent to me:

Not one but TWO stockings!  I just realized you can't see the bell that is attached to the flower one - it makes a pretty sound!

A painted trinket box and 3 cute animals (I think they are made from clay)

The penguin is not attached to the box, he's a magnet and I stuck him onto the clasp before taking the picture.

Some candles, folded paper boxes (each decorated differently) and flower bundles.

I received from Michela today and WOW, did she blow me away with what she sent!  Way beyond what we agreed to but, hey, I'm not complaining.  Prepared to be amazed!!

THE STOCKING (I believe it's knit and it's made very well and, oh, so soft)

She said this as one of her signature pieces and this pictures does not do it justice.  It's beaded and absolutely stunning!  I think it's a poinsetta (I was looking through a post of other flowers Michela has made and came across one that look very similar to this and she said that one was a poinsetta)

3 ornaments - 2 painted blue (the picture doesn't show just how nice they are) and one with penquins all around it (so cute!)

An Amish puzzle ball (I've wanted one of these for a long time)

4 sewn napkins with little snowmen inside mittens

A spider for my Christmas tree (she said her aunt always put a spider on her tree because it was good luck to see one on the tree (I'll have to look this myth up))  I actually got squeemish when I was opening it  Grin

More ornaments - the tree is cross stitch and has 2007 in roman numerals

An itty, bitty, teeny, weeny knit sweater and hanger (so adorable)

Supplies to help with my desire to learn origami (she even folded two cranes herself)

6 wonderful hand made Christmas cards (do you actually expect me to give these away??)

2 containers of cookies (see the 1/2 eaten one on the right) - they are so yummy and since they don't contain chocolate, I don't think I will share them with my family but keep them all for myself!

2 fantastic pieces of fabric (now, what should I make with them?)

Whew, I made it through everything - aren't you amazed with this package??  I sure am!  Do I feel spoiled, you bet I do!!!

486  Re: 2007 Color Craft-A-Long in Craftalongs by Homerof2 on: December 05, 2007 10:14:17 AM
and, lastly, for December - I've already posted these in other galleries but since they are white, I'm going to make them my December items.

These little guys are called Slim and Chubby - they are named this because they were originally one piece of wood but I thought it was too thick so I cut a piece off, creating Slim and was left with Chubby  Grin

                               Slim                                                            Chubby

I realize you can't see their thickness but Chubby is about twice as thick as Slim.  If you are really observant, you will notice that they don't seem to match very well (Slim has a bulge on the left) and that's because my cut mark didn't look very nice so I turned Slim around and used the back as the front.  Chubby has a matching bulge on his right side but it's hidden under his scarf.

Have you ever seen a black snowflake??  No, well now you have!

I wasn't going to do anything for this month because I rarely craft with black but the longer the month went and the closer it came to not being able to post for this month, I just couldn't skip a month!  I have crafted for each month so far and couldn't bring myself to skip the next to last one.  So, this morning while waiting for my norton security to update, I whipped this little thing up.  It will never make it to my tree but I think it's still kind of cute  Grin

This is the snowman I made for Michela's sister (the one she wouldn't give back so Michela could take a picture, see way back on page 40  Grin )

I named him Chubby and if you click on this link:  https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=206667.0 you can see his brother Slim!

I had originally cut 1 snowman out and then decided it was too thick so I cut a section off and ended up with 2 different sized snowmen (one thick and one thin)

Moose_hat received from me but doesn't have access to a camera right now so asked if I would post pictures of what I sent.  After all the talk of how to take good photos, I almost don't want to post the terrible picture I have of what I sent.  It was one of those last minute pictures I remembered to do before sending, there were items in the way that I had to color out (since my photo editing program isn't very good) but at least the stocking picture turned out okay!

The stocking (totally non-traditional colors but she liked orange and purple so that's what I used)  It was free hand pieced and then instead of traditional quilting, I used decorative machine stitches to go over each seam (I was thrilled with how it turned out and Moose_hat said she really liked it, too!)

and the items that filled it:

The green bulb is a crochet dishcloth, a crochet bell ornament, a painted wooden gingerbread man, a melted bead suncatcher (so much fun to make!), some gum and some chocolates shaped like our Canadian $1 and $2 coins.
