262  CANADA / Alberta / Re: Edmonton? E-town? Anyone? on: March 13, 2006 11:33:52 AM
okay, i think that'd be enough people. so,i'm willing to organize it, just give me a week to 1) finish up my other swaps that i'm currently in and 2) figure out exactly how one ORGANIZES a swap. i'll post again with a link to the edmonton swap when it's up.

also, i was thinking, in lieu of wasting money on postage, maybe we could have a swap meet and greet at like the black dog or something. thoughts? we can work out the details as i research being an organizer.

264  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Unconditional Swap (February) on: March 04, 2006 07:08:02 PM

so i asked for a knee length skirt and gerbilonwheels sent me all these second hand clothes! how lucky am i ?!
the picture is lousy, but she sent two dresses, two tops, a skirt and a suit. and the best part? they all fit AMAZINGLY well. (and they're all way nicer than any of the ratty clothes i own!)

thank you thank you thank you gerbilonwheels!

266  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: The ethics of knitting for someone else... on: February 22, 2006 11:25:12 AM
hmmm. a tricky question. i personally would say it's okay to be paid to make a free pattern - that the problem would arise if you make like ten, of say, a sweater, and then sell them off. then you'd be profiting from the person's idea. but i think if person "a" says i'll pay you for your time to knit me this sweater, i think you could do it in clear conscience. i've designed patterns before i wouldn't mind if they were used in that way.

if you're really feeling guilty, just charge enough to pay a fair wage to yourself. or, depending on where your "free" pattern came from, you could buy something else from the place you got it from (holy grammatically incorrect, batman). say you got your free pattern from knitty - you could buy some knitty products, or products from the person who designed it, or even just send them a five dollar cheque explaining the situation.

can i just say it's really refreshing to hear someone talk more about the "ethics" of a problem like this, as opposed to just being like "am i gonna get sued?"

that's REALLY good for a first project, and i totally love the red against the purple. the contrast is cool.
this is the start of big things for you! i can't wait to see what else you post!
268  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Unconditional Swap February on: February 19, 2006 11:01:31 AM
Hi! I'm in Edmonton, Canada.

My wishes are

#1 - A cute knee length skirt - i love madewithlovebyhannah.com (my measurements are 31" waist,  39" hips) THANK YOU GERBILONWHEELS!!!!!
#2 - Interesting fabric/notions i can use to make bags and tops
#3 - Anything that you make that you're proud of! I love surprises, and though it probably makes me sound like your mom, I really will love anything you make for me - no matter what it is.

I'm 25, and I work for a TV news station. Some of my favorite music includes Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill, Modest Mouse, Mirah; my favorite shows are the Office (UK and American version), Arrested Development and Sex and the City; favorite movies Ghostworld, Run Lola Run. I like bright colors, black, and any combination thereof.

I hope that helps anyone who chooses to craft for me.  If you do, thank you in advance!
