146  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / newbie posting past completes< img heavy> on: January 19, 2006 02:55:45 PM
I am new to craftster  and  had a few things  already made and given away or sold  just wanted to  show you  too....this is the brilliant Idea I had to use my sons old baby clothes..... the old superman zip up jammies I cut out the superman front and sewed it to another piece of material (creating a large pocketed area that now zips shut)  He hides his favorite toy in it.   The  rest is just different clothes he wore from birth to 2 and I used low loft batting and a flannel back. he still sleep with it every night. he's 6 now.

here it is

this one  is  the first actual Baby blanket I ever made I was so very sad I had promised  it to some one cause I just love how it  turned out.  (and normally I don't  like  how  my stuff  ends up I  just nit pick it to death.

this is  one I made for my hubby.  It is costume made to fit his semi.

(It was stolen)  so I made him a new one this year.

here is  one I did for my cousin's 4th child.... she likes  green and they live in the country

This is my second favorite because I got the material for the front in a thrift shop at 50cents a yard and I cut each  "square out then added batting to each one before placing on the front after stitching them down I added the  high loft batting

here is another I made from that wonderfull place.

my father makes oak baby cradles and I used to make blankets for him to put in or sell with the cradles. here are a few I made.
this one  was an attempt to duplicate the one I liked so well...  NOT

winnie the pooh

mickey mouse

pooh again

disney babies

I have one more that was the first blanket I ever attempted to make..... learned alot of mistakes there!
This is from my daughters old baby clothes (and first swim suit (tee hee hee)).   she  won't let me take it back apart and fix the backing is really badly placed  but she  just  can't  bear to not have it for that long. well here it  is  anyway.

thanks for viewing and listening to my  rambles
147  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Hot glue gun challenged? on: January 17, 2006 10:31:51 AM
Hello, I have  noticed on some posts that people are not  friends of the glue gun......  believe me it took someone to show me  a few hints that  helped me love my glue gun too.  So here is a few hints and I hope others add some too that I can pick up on.  But  this may get something   good  started.

first off start playing with a low temp glue gun to get a good rythm.

If you have already gotten a high temp  one  thats  fine..... dollar tree carries all you need to get it right....
I get all my glue sticks  from  the dollar tree.... gotta love that place... any way   back to the  topic.

a seem ripper is great for  holding an item in place while  waiting that few seconds for the glue to set.
a pair of needle nose pliers is good too  or tweezers for  small items.
and a  standard 12 inch (or 6 inch if  you want) ruler

and for those seriously hot glue gun challenged a regular pair of dish washer gloves. yep they protect our beloved fingers suprisingly well.

as far as use of the ruler it is woderful when working with fabric because you can wrap the fabric around the edge of the ruler and tilt the ruler or palce it how ever you need by your bead of glue.

who else has great tips and hints for glue gun use
148  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / need gift idea for brother in law on: January 16, 2006 06:23:54 PM
