4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Crafts for kids on: December 19, 2009 10:41:49 PM
I am an elementary school teacher, and I will be teaching an after-school enrichment program involving my students and crafts.

I really want to focus on the fact that crafts are more than just coloring/painting which they mainly do in art class once a week.

I would love to make paper with them, jewelry with polymer clay, making new crayons out of old crayon pieces, and teach them alternative crafts (reusing, re-purposing items).  But I don't know how limited my resources are going to be.  I dont know if I will have access to an oven to bake clays or melt crayons.  And I dont know how much space I will have to keep paper to dry.

I believe the class will be after school once a week, for an hour and a half.  So if I do something like papermaking, a lot of the time will be prep-time, because I want students to be involved in the process, not just show up and have it ready for them to use.

Can anyone think of fun, different crafts I can do with them on days when I dont want to do a time-consuming project like that?  I would like for some of the crafts to be really personal, and have them really take their time to think about them and construct them.

Any ideas?

I am trying to make the detective costume in a more adult size.  I am very excited about it.

Lots of pumpkin carvings and cute costumes!
7  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Halloween Wanted Posters on: October 12, 2009 07:13:16 PM
I saw these posters in Martha Stewart's Halloween magazine.  She's selling them for 15 dollars for the 6 poster set on her website.

But I think we all know its MUCH more fun to make things yourself.

These pictures were taken from my Blackberry and do not do them justice at all.

I printed the pictures on my printer, ripped off the edges for a worn look, dyed the paper with tea and then singed the edges with a match.  Some of them were still a little wet when I took these pictures.

The zombie one is my favorite.  =)

I love this.  I used to have one as a kid, it was a giraffe and to this day I still wish I had it.

Your niece and nephew will love and remember these!

I love making lime/lemon canes.

Yours are especially cute since they are so TINY!  There are so many possibilities, earrings, necklaces, etc.   Grin
