1  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Decorating hairstick blanks on: April 13, 2006 02:44:49 PM
I searched in the memories and all over the internet, but I've yet to find way to to accomplish what I want. I have hair stick blanks, and they have a hole drilled in the top. What I'd like to do is use a pin of some sort and put some beads on the ends. Kind of like these:

Unfortunately, the predrilled hole is not very deep (about one centimeter) and I live in a dorm and so have no access to any power tools, drillers or the like. I know this can be done because I see all these beautiful sticks for sale, but I'd feel rather funny asking the sellers how they do it since that would be rather tacky.
2  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Crochet + math = coral reef on: April 12, 2006 09:22:17 PM
I normally lurk in the knitting boards, but this was just too cool not to share!

It's a project to make a coral reef based on hyperbolic crochet and they welcome submissions. Not much in the gallery yet, but I thought it was pretty nifty!

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Hiding the mark of the curse on: January 20, 2006 02:28:10 PM
So I'm sure this has happened to everyone (well, everyone that's female and menustrating...but I'm assuming that's most of the board Wink ), you are sitting around, minding your own business, wearing something light colored...when *dun, dun, dun* Aunt Flo decides to visit a little early or maybe you just forgot she was coming... Stainage. I only have four pairs of pants and two of them are tan...and now both of them are stained (damn you menses! *shakes fist*). I have the stain *most* of the way out on one pair, but the other pair is being a bit stubborn.

I can't afford to buy pants right now and there is no real thrift store where I've just moved. Anybody have any methods for hiding such stains in a way that doesn't look like you have something to hide? (Ie, not just wearing something long enough to cover or tying on a sweater) I mean there has to be a nice looking way to go about this, right? Both pants are tan cordoroys if that helps any.

Oh, and if anyone can point towards a good tutorial for making old sweaters into leg warmers I'd also be very thankful. I have a couple of long skirts, but tis all snowy out here, so I'm afraid my legs would get cold wearing them. I plan to knit some...after I finish this scarf and a hat....and yeah...might take a while otherwise.

5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Crafting for someone who's nonsentimental on: January 16, 2006 02:51:39 PM
Sooo....I just read the *entire* generic gifts for your boyfriend thread and browsed through *all* of the threads in this category, but I still need some more ideas. I'm looking for gifts for my boyfriend of two years. It recently became long distance and we are fairing nicely, but I'd like to send him small gifts now and then. I'm a bit stymied on ideas though.

About him: computer engineering major, practical, likes moose (but is a bit tired of getting random moose things that he can't use from everyone when they are stumped for what else to give him), like things that he can use, casually into WoW, likes lingerie, doesn't like clutter, nerdy, *not* artsy, master at teh internet piracy (so no mix cds or anything like that), has plenty of candles...and I'll add more as I think of it...

Some ideas I already have: I'm making him a corset shaped card (still trying to think of what to say in it...I'm not that mushy either), thinking of doing some black t-shirts with binary on them, or random geeky phrases, boxers with "You r0xx0r my b0xx0rs" on them and a simpler idea for socks and ummm after that I'm stuck...

Any ideas?
