1  UNITED STATES / Michigan / Upper Peninsula Roll Call on: August 20, 2008 04:08:41 PM
Okay, I live in Marquette and know many crafty punky ladies and resourceful mamas here in real life, I am wondering who are we missing?
If you are a Yooper crafter/maker/artist, please respond and introduce yourself!

my name is Mavis and I am an artist, seamstress, dreamstress, drummer, and a work at home mama. I create natural fiber clothing and re-sourced housewares, among other things.

Who and where are ya?
2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Natural Wooden Play Kitchen with Sink on: February 19, 2008 06:29:07 AM
So, I asked DH if we could get DD one of those fancy natural play kitchen sets. They cost between 150-400 dollars. We decided that that is too much money to spend on a toy, no matter how cool it is. And I didn't want some large plastic thing hulking in the house for several years, so we made one!

action shot:

Total cost was just over $50 dollars for the wood, oven hinges, reclaimed "hot" faucet, dowel, s hooks, and stainless bowl for the sink.

DD was so excited, she couldn't stop playing last night. We actually had to move it out into the living room so we could watch our movie and she could keep "cooking".
3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Advice on embroidering a tie on: February 11, 2008 10:37:48 AM
Hi! I finally thought of what to make DH for valentine's....I want to embroider a cool design on a tie.
But I don't know what to "back" the fabric with so it doesn't look all weird and bunchy when I'm done....have you done this or a similar project?
Any advice would be very appreciated!

Thank you!
4  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / I made some Spring-colored winter fleece yoga style pants for my daughter.... on: February 09, 2008 10:33:06 AM
They turned out pretty well. It hasn't been above zero for days here, so I thought my daughter could use something spring-like.

this is my first time using the photo hosting feature, not sure if it will work....

5  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / huge burlap bags that unroasted coffee beans come in... on: February 06, 2008 05:17:35 AM
Huh any ideas?

they are about 2.5 feet by 3 feet. with cool printing on one side.
so far i've come up with: reusable grocery tote, dog bed slipcover, and curtains (if i used about 5 of them)
i have a fairly good supply of these. they are pretty scratchy, so clothing isn't an ideal project. they also tend to shed fibers......

help!  Huh
6  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Miss Maybelline the owl....my first project post! on: January 31, 2008 11:31:07 AM

7  CLOTHING / Clothing Sewalongs / Patchwork dress/Aprontop sewalong? on: January 29, 2008 03:05:59 PM
Okay okay, so I made it to a few Grateful Dead shows. I miss the parking lot fashion!
I am desperate for a sunny, sweet, patchy dress or apron/babydoll patchwork top to get me out of a winter funk.
Does anyone have a pattern or tute? Does anyone want to play along?
