Hey guys .. I was flipping through a magazine the other day and they showed a DIY shirt and it had a heart ripped out with slits like this ..

     ---------     ---------
    -----------   -----------
   ------------- -------------

(lines were the slits)

Anyone see this article and/or know how to create this effect?
I'd like to make this shirt for Valentine's Day ..
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Sewing Necessities on: January 20, 2006 03:29:59 PM
Hey craftsters!

I have a quick question for all of you .. I'm new to the sewing aspect of crafting and I was wondering what you deem a 'necessity' .. like which supplies you can't live without and such .. I'm going to Michael's later and I'd like to have a couple ideas in mind .. I do have a sewing machine, thread, pins, etc.

Thanks so much! I appreciate it.
3  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Help Orphaned AIDS Children and Babies of South Africa on: January 16, 2006 12:32:22 PM
Hello everyone! I'm a relatively new member of craftster so many of you may not know me .. here's my story ..

Both of my parents were born in South Africa, and all of my extended family still live there. My parents left for North America to escape the instability of the country and the Apartheid. As you probably know, the AIDS epidemic is sweeping most African nations. Having seen poverty and children begging you for something to eat on the street, I can assure you that there is no greater heartbreak in the world. I will never forget some of the faces approaching our car in traffic rubbing their stomachs or touching their hands asking for change. Luckily, many people are trying to make a difference with these growing problems. My grandfather is an active member of his church and volunteers at a hospice as well as various organizations such as Toys For Happiness (similar to Toys For Tots but functions year round).

As I've been browsing craftster, I've realized so many talented knitters, sewers, and crocheters. I was hoping that any of you, no matter what your skill level is, will perhaps sponsor an extra craft or two to donate to these children who have been dealt such a bad hand. I am travelling to South Africa at the end of June and I am hoping to take as many blankets, sweaters, hats, toys, and/or anything else that would be helpful to these children. I can promise you that any and all of these items will truly be appreciated.

Right now, this project of mine is still a little "fuzzy." I'm simply posting this to see if there is enough interest, and if there is, I will definitely draw up a plan. If postage is an issue, I'll try and find a corporate sponsor. I hope to take a full suitcase of items to donate. If you have any questions/concerns please PM me or post here. Thank you so much!
