22  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / ? about how long it should take to knit. IE: Am I extremely slow or what? :-) on: January 24, 2007 08:30:43 PM
I was reading through some of the replies to the post about the new issue of interweave knits and see some people have 5 or so things they want to knit out of this issue alone. Im blown away cause ok get this I've been knitting for a year & a half and I just finished knitting a dishcloth the other day in a basketweave stitch that took me like 10 hours! Basketweave mind you! Im wracking my brain wondering why it seems to take me forever- Im using addi turbos even, my tension is more on the tight side but not too bad, and I don't habitually tighten each stitch after each knit or purl so what gives? Some people who've been knitting as long as me are cranking stuff out and I'm going my fastest and it's still a snails pace. Don't get me wrong, I don't knit just to complete and item, I truly enjoy myself along the way, but after a while it just gets discouraging when it takes me so much longer than everyone else just to get simple things like a washcloth done. What gives? I know how to knit continental- should I just knit like that instead of the regular way?
Anybody else have this problem? Any advice for us slowpokes out there who would like to actually get an item knit in a reasonable amount of time? (Like before the yarn disintegrates off the needle) hee hee
Any advice is welcome
Hugs
Elphie

I knit & felted it for a swap I was in- I made the pattern up as I went along.
A lot of fun when you just let loose- no holds barred-kinda thing- my first attempt knitting anything without a pattern.(except a scarf-but that doesnt count right??lol)
Please let me know what ya all think. Good, bad and ugly. Grin

26  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Do you like Green Day? Lost Prophets??? Taking back Sunday???? on: December 05, 2006 08:33:45 PM
Well my swap partner did, so one of the things I made her for her stocking in the Stcking Swap was a set of these made of resin- this was my second time- my first attempt working with resin I didnt mix long enough and they were totally tacky to the touch 72 hours later when I figured Id better start over!(they never ever did dry btw,,,lol)

Here's the stuff: 2 necklaces one with a chain and one with a crocheted chain.
Also Im not sure if you can tell but I added a slight bit of red dye to the resin for color cause it matched the band cover art colors. The second item is a keychain. I hope she likes it all. It was fun to make- a lot of work (and it you print pics and use them in resin you'll know what I mean, spray sealing, modgepodge, exacy trimming to fit mold etc,. lol) But once you get it right you are really kind of proud of yourself. At least I was!!!! roflmao
Please let me know what ya all think!
Hugs
Elphie

28  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Avatar the Last Airbender Swap? on: October 27, 2006 07:56:32 AM
I'm considering hosting a Swap for Avatar the Last Airbender, which is an awesome cartoon on Nick. Grin
I'm thinking of dividing it up into 4 categories AIR< WATER< EARTH<FIRE  and you would list what character you would like to make out of what categoryand also list what character/category you would like to receive. You would be able to list more than one if you are open.
Then I would pair people up accordingly.
Is there any interest?

Hugs
Elphie

30  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / One Skein- Felted Clutch with hand embroidery on: September 26, 2006 05:01:05 PM
Hi everyone!
This was my first time ever knitting a clutch, my first time ever felting, and my first time hand embroidering a felted item! A lot of firsts! lol Grin Anyways, I was quite happy with how well it turned out!
It is from the book "One Skein" and I used Lambs Pride bulky. I did have to make some modifications. The color in the pic where I'm holding it most accurately depicts the true color.
Interweave Press hosted a swap-a-long for this book, and I made this as my finished project for my partner.
I had a lot of fun making it!
Please feel free to post comments, both good and bad- that is after all how we grow to become better!
Hugs Elphie
