i agree with bluaria, lacc is a good place to start, and although $180 is expensive, if it's all inclusive it may be worth it for materials, instruction, use of equipment...

and since i know you're not near lacc, i'd try the nearest community college in your area. or you could try getting ahold of the instructor of the lacc metals program and asking him/her if they know of anyone teaching a similar program in your area.

good luck melissa! :)
42  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Re:Origami monsters! on: April 06, 2004 02:30:24 PM

i really like these. i don't know much about origami, but i have some origami paper lying around that's just sitting there. does anyone know of any other sites for origami birds, in particular?

thanks for posting this, technopaganus. i'm inspired...

i'm probably making the trip downtown next week sometime, so i'll definitely check out those places that you recommended. i'm glad they don't negotiate anyway... i usually fail miserably in that type of shopping!

thanks again Smiley
44  California / California: South / garment district question on: April 01, 2004 11:50:32 AM

i'm relatively new to la, and i'm curious about this 'garment district'. i've been to website and there are a ton of stores--my mind goes nuts thinking about going into each one of them. does anyone have any recommendations for good, cheap fabric? right now i'm specifically looking for some type of light upholstery fabric to make slipcovers out of, but i love just browsing.

any ideas would help!! thanks so much!

wow, i'm really really excited about this resin idea! i've NEVER tried anything like that before, but have always wanted to suspend something in resin. gotta get my brain cranking for ideas... and i like the idea of coasters, too.

maybe in the coming weeks/months if enough people are interested (sounds like at least 2 so far) we can have it at my place. we can talk on the 10th about it...

wahoo! playing with resin sounds so fun!

i was out of town last weekend so i couldn't join you all, but it sounds like everyone had a good time. i'd like to come on april 10, too, if that's okay? if anyone ever wants to make glass stuff in the future, my place is open (small stuff like pendants, earrings, etc.)...

i am interested too, if there's one in hollywood. i live in the silverlake/los feliz area, so the closer the better! i haven't knitted in awhile, but i miss it!

hey everyone,

i just started browsing around this site, so i'm new.

group--but i'm going to sf this weekend! do you think
you will you be doing this the following weekend or
any weekend after??

let me know, i'd be glad to have it at my house, too.
i am a glass fuser, but i also sew, knit, carve, etc

p.s. allison (happy home designs), i think i sat next
