21  "No Standardized Intertype Has Ever Become Obsolete" in What the heck can I do with THIS? by ookpik on: June 18, 2004 01:26:36 PM
I found a little typesetting line composing tool (I think) in a salvage shop for 99 cents, that really appealed to the typography geek in me.

I'm thinking of just framing it on some bright paper, maybe with a knitting needle gauge for a companion.

1. Have other ideas for great ways to repurpose this funny little metal thing?

2. Have ideas for more types of metal measuring plates to seek out for this collection? ...or,

3. Actually know how I could use this beast as originally intended?

22  Fuzzy, shiny purse shaped like a vulva in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by ookpik on: June 01, 2004 03:44:43 PM
My Arts & Crafts e-zine is up at All About My Vagina!

That means I am allowed to post some finished-object show-and-tell! Full instructions are included in the zine (plus interviews, art, crafty book excerpts, etc.)

Despite my minimal sewing skills, I managed to make a coinpurse shaped like a vulva. I'm not entirely sure I want to use this (still trying to resist vagina-saturation), but it is really soft and nice to hold. You can keep extra treasure under the big lips.

That is the craft I was most proud of. I had never designed anything more complicated than a skirt to sew. Fun! Hope you like the other crafts, too Smiley

24  1952 eyebrows (and wraps) in Vintage Craft Projects by ookpik on: May 07, 2004 11:24:31 AM
Church sale score! My knitwear model fetish continues, but this time I actually want to knit some of the patterns, too. From "New Stoles and Cover-Ups to Knit and Crochet" by Bernhard Ulmann Co.:

On the back cover, an "Angora Cape Shawl"

And the only thing that has ever made me want to crochet:

I can post patterns if anyone is inspired. Unfortunately there are no make-up tutorials included in the booklet. Holy eyebrows, batman.

25  Re:Need a cat-eared hat pattern in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by ookpik on: April 23, 2004 01:25:01 PM
hey, i have such a pattern. i find it hard to size properly, cause the ears look funny if they aren't placed exactly on the side of your head. but, here are some scans from the pamphlet "Family Headwear and Scarves by Beehive (Book No. 98)." It is really easy to find in thrift stores here, and has a lot of great kids' hats.

i really like the chunky cable!

these square pointy hats are super addictive. i made one out of buffalo wool for a friend last winter and can't stop wanting more.

27  mary maxim fetish in Vintage Craft Projects by ookpik on: March 22, 2004 10:07:06 AM
is anyone else obsessed with mary maxim knitting patterns from the 60s? i always end up buying bundles of them at thrift stores because the photography is so over the top.

sure, the patterns are swell, but the models are stone cold foxes with idiot hair!

i might make them into a coaster set or something.
