1  Re: The Breakfast at Tiffany's Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by pikabean on: September 14, 2008 01:13:05 PM
isn't the scarf amazing? Wink I'm so in love with it!  And it's definitely a large item- no question about it.  I can't wait for Ithaca winter to set in so I can use it... well, no, ok, I can wait, but I'll be happier for the cold weather since I'll be able to wear the scarf. Wink I finally took pictures and since I'm still so over the moon about the package I'm going to make you look at some of these too, haha.

Here's a group shot, including the stationary set and movie she bought me!
The mirror is missing because it's already up on my wall:

excuse our nasty rug... haha

mirror action shot:

she did a better job getting the whole scarf in one picture, but here it is, laid out on my roommates bed (mine is lofted) haha

it's super soft too!

and a couple of detail shots on the umbrella I sent to Jazz- glad you got to use it (well, sort of, haha)... it's been rainy here lately too

thanks once again for such an awesome swap PrincessJazz!

Oh, and I took this picture for you all, just for fun, before I left the city to come up to school in August:

2  Matryoshka Wallet in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by pikabean on: July 10, 2007 06:32:28 PM
So, I made this wallet for a trip to Germany (yes, I know Matryoshka's aren't German, I just needed it to hold stuff since the last wallet I made was severely falling apart) and it proved to be quite useful.

I used a discount fabric from Joanne's, some old jean scraps, and a bit of clear vinyl.  I based it very loosely on the super cute wallet tutorial (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=20925.0) but added a ton of my own stuff.

It has 3 card pockets, a clear ID pocket, 2 misc pockets, the cash pocket (of course) and my favorite (which also took me the longest to figure out) - a zippered coin pocket on the back!

I hope you like it as much as I do Smiley

Alright, I've decided on initial stamps!  I hope people like the idea.

anyway, people will get to pick one of three styles (well sort of four) and tell me the two initials they would like carved.

I carved a sample of one of the styles and may still do another sample, but probably not all three.

style choices:

(sorry the image quality is so bad- I promise it looks better in person! Wink)

4  New summer shorts in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by pikabean on: June 03, 2007 11:39:03 AM
not a super exciting recon, but since I can never seem to find shorts I like (most pairs are just too short for me) and hardly have a chance to go shopping these days, I decided to turn an old pair of jeans (previous recon gone terribly wrong) into a pair of long shorts, just a little bit more interesting than your average jean shorts.

more info on the transformation on my blog.

5  Re: Yarn Swap for Rapunzel Scarf - Round 2 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by pikabean on: April 14, 2007 08:06:44 AM
I received from 4/5 people Smiley

everyone seems to have found a common thread (haha, no pun intended Wink) in that fantastic bright blue!

I too may wait for another round to make my scarf so I can mix and match more... though most of this stuff looks wonderful together, so we'll see

6  Re: Poor Man's Silk Screen - TUTORIAL, IMG Obese in Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects by pikabean on: March 25, 2007 06:37:48 PM
I tried this a little while ago and it worked pretty well.  However I got the best results by wetting my paper a bit with paint thinner, then letting it dry some, then doing the actual transfer process with actual nail polish remover.  Odd, I know.

When I only used the paint thinner, not much happened, and when I only used the nail polish remover, my paper kept getting stuck to the cardboard I was transferring on (it still did, but not as much)

I also agree that large areas of black are much more difficult to transfer than lots of lines- I had a much easier time with the owl than the pirate with his big, dark hat.

Just my two cents Wink

Anyhow, here's what I made (both for a swap):

(the inside images are hand carved rubber stamps)

7  Re: crafty detective swap round 2 in The Swap Gallery by pikabean on: March 23, 2007 01:07:30 PM
I received from snowwhitesuicide today, and I am such a spoiled little crafter!!! I think this is the greatest swap package I have ever received!

look at all the great things I got!

The perfect knitting bag, with cute lady bugs and a plethora of pockets!
2 pairs of earrings: cherries, and her great knitting earrings which I had wisted!
personalized stationary, because she knew how I can never find anything with my name (spelled correctly) on it
knit cat toys for my babies
a cute, kitschy little vase she bought
and a wonderful painting of none other than the little craftster guy- this is fantastic!!!

some close ups:

bag lining

stationary and mice

painting and vase (sorry this pic is a little blurry)

I love everything soo much!!!  Though you will have to let me know what the plastic things on the back of the canvas are... do I do something with them so I can hang this up?  If not... how do I hang it up?  I've never really owned a piece of art like this before... and it's so fantastic- I know I want it on my wall!!! You are so talented, Thank you so much for everything!

8  Re: DIY Kit Swap Round 7 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by pikabean on: March 14, 2007 07:33:34 PM
I know I am so so so slow in getting pictures up, but here is what I received from Born2bWild:

yarn (and kool-aid with an instruction sheet in case I am unhappy with the color- I told her I like browns and bright colors, haha... not very helpful ;P) a crochet hook, and a little pattern booklet.  She also said she put some videos of stitches and stuff up on youtube for me (which I thought was soo cool) but I can't seem to find them :\

With a combo of her kit and the happy hooker (which I'm sure I wouldn't have needed if I was able to find the videos), I managed to figure out single crochet!

(that's my first swatch in both pictures Smiley)

10  Re: Ongoing Offer What You Have (Crafts/Supplies) Swap - January 25 thru Februar in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by pikabean on: February 24, 2007 03:28:03 PM
I'm pikabean and would like to claim earrings from laughing lark.
Can I claim the 2nd pair of earrings from set 1, the 2nd pair from set 5, and the 2nd pair from set 6?

My list: (anything that says 1-2 (or 2-4) next to it can be combined with something else that says 1-2 - ie: you can claim one of each)

1. 10 zippers of varied lengths/colors- you can suggest what you'd like, but no guarantees.

2. pink/red stripe stretch fabric- 28"x59"
3. purple/pink/white stripe fabric- 44"x92" - no stretch

5. lace grab bag (about 8 different kinds, depending on length)

6. tie flowers- 1-2, made on request

these are just samples- choose from ties below.
buttons in center subject to change
these are great for attaching to pins, etc, but will come on their own for your crafty pleasure Wink

7. ties- choose 2-4 from below (yes, I have duplicates... and then some), all ties are new

8. Hand carved rubber stamp (from eraser)- 1-2, you pick a fairly simple design (pm me with questions)
sample of a stamp I have made:

and stamped on to fabric with fabric paint:

prints will probably be clearer if you have an ink/stamp pad... I used that little cheapo paint brush you see in the first picture to paint the fabric paint on... haha

more soon!!
