41  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: How much does it cost... on: August 24, 2008 03:24:49 PM
I am so intimidated by the thought of quilting my own quilt.  I attempted it with my Brother machine which has the fancy foot, etc.  It was a disaster.   I am not a huge fan of "stitch in the ditch" but I may just resort to that to make my quilt come out nice on my own.  I don't think I want to spend 200.00!!!

...to have a quilt sent out for quilting?  I realize there are variables such as the size, the type of quilt shop, the city you live in, etc.  I'm looking for people's experiences as I literally have NO idea.  Is it 50 bucks?  A hundred?  Two?  What have you all spent?

That McCall's pattern is perfect-I, too, wanted to make the Touring Tote!

It's not that they aren't slimming-they are huge and don't stay on very well.  I just used the tablecloths without cutting too much b/c I hate to finish seams!  Plus, I have a bunch more of her linens...

Thanks!  It's even named after me!

Does anyone have one?  I'd also be open to any tops made of a jersey or similar knit.  I have a TON of nice T's I want to recon since they have shrunk a little more than I am comfortable with but I spent a pretty penny on them and love the softness of the fabric.

Thanks, everyone!  They are even more special since they are from my Nana's home!

Wrap pants (from this tutorial)

Wrap skirt

Both of these were ideas from Craftster.  I'm not crazy about how they look on me but I think they came out nice.  Any swappers interested?  I would love to take a couple of yards of fabric off someone's hands...both items are about a 10-12.

Love this tutorial-it is so easy!  I also really like the suggestion to really reinforce the curved seam.  I sewed a regular seam, serged it, then top-stitched it.  Here is the thing-I love these pants, love the colors and the pattern but they look bad on me.  I just don't look good in these pants.  I would to swap this with someone for anything-fabric, another finished project, anything.  Any takers?  They are probably a size 12-ish.

PS, this was a tablecloth I inherited from my hubbie's grandmother.  She had a ton and I don't know if they are from Italy, where she is from, but I adore these fabrics!

Forgot to mention that if you happen to have a tablecloth to make these pants out of, there is no hemming involved!
