21  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Re: 30th Birthday Ideas? on: October 26, 2006 07:04:00 PM
I think I'm going to invite some close friend and go out to dinner or a piano bar - something simple.  I thought of having a party, but I want to go out and have fun - not cleaning the house to have people over and then cleaning up when they leave.
22  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / 30th Birthday Ideas? on: October 23, 2006 12:34:06 PM
I turn 30 in 3 weeks (11/14)!  I want to do something for my 30th, but I have no idea what!  Do I want to have some friends over, something casual, more formal, should we go out???

A little info on me - I am married (6 years next month) and I have a 3 year-old.  I don't get out much (I am so boring) but I want to do something fun for my birthday.  Most of my friends are married with young children (Mine is older than almost all of them) so partying all night is probably not going to happen.

I want to do something FUN.  My dilemma - I love theme parties and I'd love to have like a Masquerade party or a 30's themed party, but my friends would probably not dress up for it.  And then I'll feel like a dork on my birthday!  I also worry about having it at my house because, well, I live in clutter and then I'd have to clean - for my own party!  And pay for it, so I'm thinking going out might be better.

Sigh, I don't know!  I need help!  And fast!  I have to let people know!

Thanks Smiley

I LOVE it!  That corset it georgeous!

You definatly need the scarf, a tatoo, boots and some kind of jewlery - whether it's a gemmed eye patch or a big cross necklace and some big earrings.  I think that will finish the costume nicely!
24  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: Suggestions for making Monsters Inc. Mike??? on: October 23, 2006 11:49:29 AM
I cheated and got my son's Sully costume on eBay.  It just didn't seem worth it - I like to make costumes, but it would have cost me more to make it.

I am almost done with his Mike treat bag.  I've painted a plastic pumpkin green (I had to paint it white with spray paint first and it took 3 coats of green acrylic to cover it).  I made an eye out of foam and I need to paint the mouth and add the eye.  Then I have to glue the legs and arms.  I'll post a pic of my son as Sully, with Boo and Mike when I'm done.

Hey_Pooks - thanks so much!  I really appreciate it Smiley  Your little girl is so cute!  The two patterns are perfect together - very nice!  It's exactly what I am looking for.  And I know what you mean about Mommy Brain - I got it when I was pregnant (my husband had sympathy Daddy Brain - fortuntaly we usually had it at different time so at least ONE of us knew what was going on).  I'm still waiting for it to go away.

Annaonthemoon - I totally would have gone the pink shirt and purple leggins route had I been dressing up a little girl.  I don't think anyone would have gotten it, plus they'd be wondering why my son was a little girl Smiley

Thanks so much Smiley

LOVE it!!!

My son was 1 month old a few years ago for Halloween so we went as Aragorn, Arwen and Frodo.  I pulled out a Reniesance costume I had and reconed a black shirt for my husband.  My son wore overalls that I added patches to and a pocket where I pinned a ring on a chain.  I made him a cute little hat and a cape and of course he wore no shoes (it was an indoors party).  He was so cute!  It wasn't as authentic as yours though (although he couldn't have even held a pipe).

Great job!

wow - I LOVE those!  They are so great!

We used to go to our Reniesance festival in Pittsburgh, but this year they cancelled it and it doesn't look like it will be back.  The first year my husband and I went he refused to dress up (he was convinced he's be the ONLY guy dressed) but I wore a costume I made for Halloween (Maid Marion).  Once he got there he felt stupid and wanted me o make him a kilt, so that year for Halloween we were Scottish - I made him a kilt and myself a matching skirt, plus the accessories.  The next time we went we dressed in those and last time we took my son, who was 1, and he was a knight and wore our family crest.  I was really looking forward to going this year because they have kid's activities and he is finally old enough (3) to participate, and then they cancelled it.  Sad

Anyway, I am a total Fairy Freak - I might have to attempt this sometime!

Thanks - I'd love to see the photo!  I figures I'd make a tube with arm holes and the velcro closure, but the hood has me stumped!  I did buy a Boo doll in her costume, so having it in 3D helps me, but I'd love to see you photo.

Damn, I have been obsessed with finding an orange dress since I read this post - I really want to be a Pumpkin Fairy!
30  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: Work Appropriate Costumes on: October 19, 2006 01:01:51 PM
We can't really dress up here at work, not too much at least, but we have kids from the day care across the street Trick or Treat, so I like to dress up somewhat, usually something I can add to to make a costume.  Last year I was a cowgirl - I wore a jean skirt, a brown shirt and a brown leather vest (nothing with fringe though), and cowboy boots.  I added a cowboy hat and my son's horse (the head on a stick kind).

I've work black before and added a witch's hat.

Those are kind of boring, though.
