1  Re: Any good one skein/scrap projects? in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by nosyred on: May 08, 2007 07:49:53 PM
I've been making teensy little bags with wool scrap yarn.  they're not totally useful, but they're fun.  the blue one holds my memory sticks, and the red holds two tiny little figurines one of my labmates gave me before he moved back to china.

2  Re: Knitty's Center Square hat in Knitalongs by nosyred on: April 15, 2007 11:35:54 AM
I actually already made a few, but I'll post pictures anyway, just because I love KALs.  I have another one, this out of actual wool instead of lion wool, and without the rolled brim, but I have no photos yet.  I'll post it later, though, if anyone's interested.

(I didn't like the bulky concept, so I just did more repeats with worsted weight yarn, instead)

3  ice monster and ichat in Knitting: Completed Projects by nosyred on: January 26, 2007 04:32:54 PM
so, I have a labmate heading to antarctica.  so what does she need to accompany her there?  why, one of jezze's little monsters!

then he got onto my boyfriend's computer, and it was all downhill from there . . . .

4  4 new hats (all 4 fair isle'd, 2 modified center squares) in Knitting: Completed Projects by nosyred on: January 03, 2007 06:05:50 AM

the two straight-up fair isles (with a f.i. pattern cribbed from a '70s sweater pattern of my mom's) are both done in wool-ease, as is the darker-colored center square.  the lighter one, though, is patton's merino, which I never realized knits up so much nicer.  I'm totally a convert.

(both the blue and white hats are for my mom; the grey/red f.i. is for my dad; the green mod center square is, well, practice.)

5  green cabled scarf *now with pattern!* in Knitting: Completed Projects by nosyred on: December 31, 2006 01:41:19 PM
this is a (somewhat highly) modified version of yarnhag's cabled scarf (at https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=134836.0).  it's a christmas present for my boyfriend's mother, in return for her lovely gift of a supernice needle roll filled with bamboo needles.  (this is essentially the best present I could ask for.)

I used 2.5 balls of years-old wool-ease in some color I'm not sure they make anymore and size 8 needles, with 12" pieces for fringe (so 6" when each piece is folded in half, which is really pretty darn big, but I think it works), 3 pieces every 2 stitches.  the whole scarf is about 6' long (she's a tall lady), but it's very thick so doesn't seem quite so big when it's on.  basically, I wanted to keep it but couldn't let myself.

thanks, mandalol!  I finished the knitting last night and sewed in a lining and some velcro to keep it closed this evening.

after a few attempts at pattern-designing, I've finished the first half (well, one side, I guess) of my pirate argyle pencil case.

8  Re: "Fetching" from Knitty: Summer 2006 in Knitalongs by nosyred on: September 03, 2006 12:45:38 PM

done in caron simply soft, grey.  I like 'em a lot (and they're so warm and soft!), but they're also too big, so I'm giving them to a labmate on monday.  I'm psyched to make more pairs, though!
