1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Grape Vine 'Round My Wrist [pic whore] on: January 18, 2008 08:57:32 AM
Rather than read a book for one of my graduate courses, I made this bracelet. I used silver chain, more than forty green buttons, a silver leaf charm, and a lobster clasp. I love the sound the buttons make as they dance around my wrist.

Okay, the bracelet is a pic whore.
What do you think?
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Source of Good Quality, Yet Inexpensive Findings on: January 01, 2008 07:58:02 PM
Where do you buy good quality, yet inexpensive necklace, bracelet, and earring findings -- either online or in person? I've been going to Michael's, but the packaging of the findings doesn't say what it is made of or give any other important details.
Thanks in advance!
3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Earring Binge 8, Anyone? on: December 29, 2007 07:33:42 PM
Anyone want to organize/participate in another earring binge swap? My ears are feeling rather empty...
4  UNITED STATES / Washington, D.C. / Bead Shops in Northern Virginia? on: December 21, 2007 05:33:28 AM
I'm back in Northern Virginia for winter break. Does anyone know of any good bead stores in between Woodbridge, Virginia, and Washington, DC? I make that drive five days a week to go to work, and it'd be wonderful to take a bead break.
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Green/White Striped Scarf, Or: How I Rediscovered Knitting on: January 15, 2007 03:00:04 PM
I taught myself to knit over the summer, but after finishing my first and only project, I got distracted by college and laid my needles to rest. However, about a month ago, I decided to knit my boyfriend a warm scarf. (It was chilly here in DC at the time, mind you, not 60 degrees as it is now!) I found a local yarn shop, bought some delicious Lamb's Pride Worsted, and started knitting feverishly.

He dumped me a few days before Christmas, after deciding to do it two weeks beforehand and only after I started inquiring as to why he was acting so distant and preoccupied. I didn't know what to do with what was supposed to be his Christmas present, so I just kept knitting...

And now it's finished!

So, it may look to you like a simple, two-color scarf, but to me it's much more. A triumph over him. A celebration of my own worth. A discovery of the joys of knitting.

And, no worries, this story has a happy ending! I'm now dating my best friend, a man who loves me and appreciates me (and my growing stash of yarn).
6  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Problem with Clock Kit for Record Clock on: August 06, 2006 06:03:11 PM
Never mind, fixed it. Why can't I delete my own message?
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / First Sewing Project: Denim iPillow! (image heavy) on: July 25, 2006 01:59:14 PM
I took a pair of jeans that no longer fit because of my last growth spurt, tore them up with a seam ripper, and sewed a pillow with pockets for my cellphone and iPod.

The pillow!

The music notes were stenciled on with fabric paint and later outlined with embroidery floss; the ribbon -- that matches my cellphone! -- was sewn on.

It's also the perfect size for a teddy bear!

My bear, Karma, poses with my sewing machine, Gabrielle.
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Green Scarf -- First Knitting Project! on: February 02, 2006 06:23:40 PM

It's knitted in garter stitch with Wool-Ease Chunky on size 11 needles. I taught myself to knit last weekend in an effort to relax after midterm exams.
What do you think? It's so soft and comfortable! Any suggestions for a second project? I don't really wear hats...

9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Wrist Pain from Knitting? on: January 29, 2006 06:52:07 PM
I just taught myself to knit this weekend, so I've been working on my first project -- a scarf -- for about 3-4 hours each day. It's so relaxing! But my wrist has started to hurt... Am I doing something wrong? What can I do about it? By the way, I'm an English knitter. I mean, I knit in the English style, but I'm American from the colonies.

That's my scarf after Day 1. It's currently Day 3, so imagine it three times that length! I'm making it out of Wool-Ease Chunky. I've absolutely fallen in love with the color and texture. Wow, I'm gushing about yarn...
10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Add some excitement to your mailbox! on: January 16, 2006 09:46:11 AM
I just found this awesome postcard project that I wanted to share with my fellow craftsters: www.postcrossing.com

Postcards can be homemade or store-bought. Basically, you sign up and ask for an address to send your first postcard to. When they've received it, your address is given to someone else, and you receive a postcard from an exotic location. Then, you send another, receive another, and so on.

I'm really excited about this project! I just signed up today and wrote my first postcard. It's to Malaysia! I thought the postage would be exceptionally expensive, but it's only 75 cents. I can't wait to start receiving postcards.
