1  Holy Sticks of Butter! 3 Layer Chocolate Coffee Cake in Dessert by nicegoing on: June 26, 2011 12:59:42 PM

Hola Craftsters!

It's been forever since I posted, but I thought I'd share this cake I made for my boyfriend's birthday yesterday. It took me all morning and by the time it was all said and done I used 6 sticks of butter!! Plus 1/2 a cup of shortening. Absolutely ridiculous. But everyone loved it! I wouldn't know, as I hate coffee and didn't taste it. I'm very proud of how it turned out though! Definitely my most successful baking experience to date.

I got the recipe from here: http://danatreat.com/2010/12/did-you-make-that-cake/

All packaged up and ready for delivery!

I would love to answer any questions you might have, thanks so much for looking! Smiley

2  Recent Photography! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by nicegoing on: October 06, 2010 09:48:54 PM
Hola Craftsters! As a freshman in college with no idea what I want to do with my life, I decided to take a photography class because that's always been something I've had an interest in. I also joined a photo club we have on campus and both have been great for motivating me to get out and take more pictures and get out of my little photography slump I've been in for the past few months. Anywhoo.. I'd love to know what you guys think of my work! Enjoy. Smiley

Phew, that was a little more than I thought! I would love to know which is your guys' favorite/least favorite and if you have any suggestions for me to improve.

Thanks for looking!

3  Re: Lets See Pics of Tattoos You Designed! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by nicegoing on: August 04, 2010 07:35:26 PM
I've had so much fun looking through everybody's tattoos! I've been wanting a tattoo for a while now and last weekend I finally took the plunge. It's nothing earth-shattering but I love it. I'm really drawn to birds and I love the song Black Bird by the Beatles. Each bird also represents a member of my family. I'd love to know what you guys think!

4  Re: Newbie Swap Round 13 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by nicegoing on: August 01, 2010 11:58:12 PM
I received my package from Lolailo yesterday!!!!! I was so excited to rip into it, but I had to stop and explain the concept of a swap to my mother. I'm still not sure she gets it. Roll Eyes

As a lot of you might have read in my bio, I'm heading off to my freshman year of college soon (less than 3 weeks!!!). Lolailo really took this to heart and crafted some amazing goodies that will definitely be joining me in my dorm room.

On to the goodies!

Of course I open the biggest package first...

How cute is that?! I love love love the color combination and I needed something just like this for my dorm. I love the ribbon and the adorable little bows really pull it all together.

Another shot...

Yeah, this will be getting a ton of use in my dorm room!

Next item up....

Can you say adorable?! I can't wait to find a place for this little piece of art. I honestly have to smile every time I look at it.  Cheesy

Gotta have a close up...

Correct me if I'm wrong but are his scales made from the inside of security envelopes??

Moving on...

I feel like I'm overusing words like "cute" and "adorable" but really, how else can I describe these? I was having a hard time photographing these so I this is what I had to resort to. I absolutely love them. They will surely liven up my closet at college. Smiley

And last but not least...

The picture does not do this justice! I don't know why I had such a difficult time photographing this.. I apologize for the quality. Sad It's a little mirror with a gorgeous blue frame with a border of faux buttons. Is this the last item that you were having trouble with, Lolailo? If so, it was totally worth it! Cheesy

Lolailo also included some patterns for really cute hats! I've never made a hat before, it'll be fun to try something new.

I'm so incredibly happy with my package! Thank you so much for being an amazing partner, Lolailo. I really appreciate all the work you went through to make sure everything was perfect. And thank you for making my first swap experience a fantastic one! I can't wait to do more swaps in the future. Smiley

7  New Summer Dress! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by nicegoing on: June 24, 2010 09:52:05 AM
Hey Craftsters! I finally finished this dress that had been sitting in pieces on my workroom floor for months. I'm quite happy with what I ended up with. It is loosely based on this adorable dress from a fellow Craftster: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=124741.0

Check it out!

The front

The back

Closeup of the "belt" which is actually an strip of fabric from a t-shirt and one of those rings you use for purse-making. It's sewn right onto the dress

The whole dress. I lined it using fabric from these huge white t-shirts I had laying around.

Thanks for looking.. let me know what you guys think!

8  I can't think of a catchy title... Photography! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by nicegoing on: June 19, 2010 06:54:56 PM
Hey Craftsters! I finally got out yesterday and took some photos.. nothing too special, but I like them. Hope you do too!

I couldn't decide whether I like this or the colored one better, so I'll just post them both. Cheesy

9  Henna in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by nicegoing on: June 16, 2010 09:08:28 PM
Hola Craftsters! Check out the henna I did last night. Cheesy

I'm fairly proud of this.. it's been a LONG time since I've done henna, I could see myself getting back into it.

What do you think? Thanks for looking! Smiley

Edit: Here's some more info on my henna process:

I used 2009 Jamilia henna ordered from Mehandi.com. I mixed the henna powder with lemon juice and a tiny bit of honey. After letting it rest in a covered bowl overnight, I add naiouli and cardamom essential oils (a.k.a. "terps") and let it rest another 8 hours. Terps help to improve the stain of henna.

As for the actual design process, well, there really isn't much of one! Cheesy I learned some of the basic elements of henna design here: http://www.hennapage.com/henna/what/lineart/index.html
I try to find different ways to use these elements and just sort of let the design flow.

The stain turned out lovely considering the location on my body, unfortunately I don't have a paste-off picture. Sad

10  LOST Finale Cupcakes! in Dessert by nicegoing on: May 23, 2010 02:05:13 PM
Hola Craftsters! So today my boyfriend and I will be attending a small party for the series finale of our favorite show of all time, LOST. We decided to make cupcakes for the event!

It was pretty simple, we used this recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Self-Filled-Cupcakes-II/Detail.aspx along with cream cheese frosting. We printed out tiny Lost-related images and attached them to toothpicks and stuck them in the cupcakes to set the mood. Wink Oh, and them we sprinkled them with Hershey's bar shavings. I'm very happy with how they turned out, and I can't wait to show people at the party tonight.

Here they are....

This was the only one that didn't turn out washed out and blurry.

The whole gang.

Hardcore Losties might notice all the candidates are in the front row. I took it a step further and put their corresponding numbers on the back.
