1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / An aluminum tire rim on: May 29, 2006 02:44:09 PM
One of the rims on my car was bent enough that any tire on it wouldn't hold air so I had to replace it.  However, it is not bent enough to be noticeable.  I haven't thrown it out because I know there's got to be some kind of cool thing to do with it.  I just don't know what that cool idea is yet.
2  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / pop-up books on: December 04, 2005 09:29:46 AM
If anyone is interested in making pop-ups, check out popupbooks.com. There are instructions on making nearly any kind of pop-up you could think of. They also give helpful hints in figuring out your own pop-ups.
3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / star-shape hand-bound accordion-style visual journal (multiple views) on: November 29, 2005 07:33:07 AM
I created this for a class a couple of months ago.  All photos, text and binding are original.  Fabric and ribbon were purchased.

All of the pages fold out as one REALLY long (7 yards) connected piece of paper/fabric.  Although I am happy with the end result, I do not recommend making an accordion-style book that is so long.
4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / mixed media postcard on: November 29, 2005 07:13:29 AM
25 people each designed the front of a postcard using the word "unified" in their chosen language.  The backs of the postcards (not pictured) all fit together as one poster that says "unified" in English. Each person sent a card to everyone else so each person ended up with 25 different cards that all fit together.  I guess the project was similar to a swap except everyone sent the same thing to everyone on the list.

The one I designed is Czech (standardni).

To create the imagery, I started by embroidering the letters on canvas.  Then I collaged over the whole thing with mulberry papers and gloss medium. I scanned in the finished image and sent prints to everyone.

Anyway, I haven't seen anyone combine collage and embroidery or really even embroidery with anything so I thought I would share and maybe inspire someone!
5  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Bookmaking on: November 26, 2005 09:16:25 AM
Anyone else into making books?  I've made a few hardcover books.  This link http://www.sdmart.org/education-plans.html#book has instructions on how to make some really unusual types of books.  I made the star book.  It came out great, but it was a pain because my book was too long for an accordion style.

Also, I can give instructions/tips on making regular sewn hard-cover books if anyone's interested.
6  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Crochet with plastic bags on: November 26, 2005 09:03:54 AM
I'm thinking about making a purse (flower bag from a past issue of crochetme) out of plastic bags.  I was wondering if anyone knew how many plastic bags would equal a yard.  Thanks for the help!
