21  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Thrift store picture revamp swap (CLOSED, 1st SEND BY 4/22) on: April 06, 2005 04:24:05 PM
My picture is a print, and it's about 24" long and 15" tall - luckily it's light.

I bought a picture a few days ago - and I just happened to stumble across a copy of one of the original paintings that inspired this swap!

I bought it - I took it as a sign.

I'm going CRAZY waiting to do this swap.  Just a question, am I the only Canadian here?

Hotpink - Ottawa, Ontarios new feminist magazine is looking for submissions for our premiere issue to be published this Summer.

Were looking for smart, savvy crafters who would like to have their wares featured in the craft corner section of our magazine.  Were also looking for writers interested in creating additional content for the magazine.

This is a FANTASTIC idea - I'm heading to the thrift store tommorow to start scouting pictures.

I'm assuming that we should be choosing reasonable sized pictures, nothing too big right?

I can't wait!

If you're looking for bead stores you MUST check out The Sassy Bead Company which has two locations in downtown Ottawa.

The first is at 757 Bank St. in The Glebe.  The Glebe is a really cool neighbourhood with lots of great shopping and eating, you should also check out The Papery for some great paper goods.

The other location is at 11 William Street in the Byward Market - another great area.  The market it filled with lots of shops, places to eat and on weekends vendors set up stands to sell their wares.

Hope that helps!

that's really cool! is that your family?

Almost everyone in the pages are members of my family.  The first set of pages have my Great-Grandparents (paternal) and my Grandma's mother, as well two of my Grandpa's brothers are in the photos.

The second set of pages is filled with aunts, uncles and cousins (my cousin Heather who is now almost 40 is the little red-haired flower girl!).  And the Family Tree layout has pictures that were taken at random throughout the years (I'm the larger of the two little girls).

My favorite picture has to be the one of my Mom's parents walking down Main St. in Winnipeg - apparently photographers would take peoples pictures at random and then try to sell them the print as they passed by.
28  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Scrapbooking: Completed Projects / Heritage Scrapbook - A few layouts on: March 21, 2005 05:12:44 PM
I began heritage scrapbooking last year, so far I have only a few layouts - but I'm proud of them all the same!  Enjoy!

This is a layout that I did to commemorate my Grandparent's journey from Scotland to Canada in the late 1920s.  It doesn't show very well, but I used a thick paper that almost looks like leather to mimic an old desk liner.  As well, I searched online and found images of the two boats that my Grandparents came over on - they are on the right page.

This is a layout I did that features my parents wedding.  They were married in 1970, and I used the bridesmaid's BRIGHT pink gowns as inspiration for the colour scheme.  As well, I re-created their wedding invite (on the left page) and scanned and then printed out their engagement announcement (on the bottom left).

This is a very basic family tree.  I tried to use more candid (or at least casual) photos than formal family pictures.  I've only included pictures of my grandparents, parents and my sister and I - the circular tags that are hanging between the Grandparents and my parents have the names and bithdates of my parents siblings.  I tried to keep it clean and simple.
