11  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / My First Sock Monkey! Vegas-style! on: May 28, 2008 05:58:44 PM
I made my first sock monkey!! from a tutorial found here: http://www.web-goddess.org/writing/tutorial/Image0.html this tute was WILDLY helpful, she didn't make it look too easy or too hard.

so here's the Ruby Casino sock monkey, up close:

and the whole she-bang:

I made this monkey for one of our jeerleaders, Ruby Casino. I play roller derby in St. Louis and we'd be lost w/o our support staff! It's even constructed from gen-u-wine roller derby history, I wore these knee-high socks my first season.

I've got so many socks that are out-of-comission I could make an army of sock monkeys, and I just might. The outfit was ten times harder to make than the monkey, I'll stick to people clothes from now on thanks.

have a great day, thanks for looking!
12  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Resin Jewelry Variety Hour! on: April 20, 2008 04:22:28 PM
Alright, I made this stuff a month or 2 ago & FINALLY have some time to post it (even though our internet is still pretty messed up).
Ta DAAAAA!!! I made the molds for these fox pendants all my myself! they are 100% one of a kind, designed & executed all by yours truly. I'd give a tute if you like but the whole process was so infuriating I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

here's my springtime pendants (P.S. hallelujah for photobucket's new edit feature!)

some repro pendants:

I definitely want to start making more rings and other objects besides pendants, but obviously you've got to start somewhere.
Some fun, craft maven-y pendants w/embroidery floss & glitter

I made this mold, too!

thanks for looking!
here are some older posts of resin jewelry:
13  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Record Bowl 2.0! (sealed! waterproof! they hold anything!) on: March 16, 2008 07:12:35 PM
Grin I'm a million times more excited about this than anyone else, I've accepted it. Please read my post anyway.

So you know what sucks about record bowls? the hole in the middle!
especially when you've got alot of super-cool 45s your sister played to death in high school. They're no longer playable, but still embody memories from your childhood...

my solution: seal the bottom of the record w/resin, now it still looks like a record but functions perfectly as a bowl! (or coaster! I made those too)

et voila! see? 45 records that hold tiny beads!

here's the bottom of the bowl holding beads

...and coasters

assortment of coasters:

issa miracle!

close up (Dude Looks Like A Lady by Aerosmith, hahaha)

I'm so glad I finally figured it out! I've literally had these bowls sitting in storage for years waiting for the solution & here they are Smiley  let me know what you think.
I think I might start painting the bowls or adding pictures in the record hole or sometin.
14  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / frosted votive holders/rocks glasses? *lossa pics* on: March 09, 2008 07:23:09 PM
so I've literally had these votive holders for at least 5 years, I've had about a million ideas & I finally decided to try my hand at hand-etching. It was SO fun, really labor-intensive but definitely worth it.

they're supposed to be votive holders but they're really big, more like a rocks glass, they would definitely make for a fun party & interesting bartending  Grin

so here's pics w/ votives in:

and here's more pictures of all the animules:

the retro starburst pattern (which took a million years):

the drrrty birdies!:
there's a bird, a penguin, an owl (my fave), & a duck

and the barnyard animules:

cow & more lamb-

so there they are! I'd like to label all my containers at work if I could find the time. So many options! let me know what you guys think, I feel like I can't decide where to go from here

15  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Vintage toiletry kit *more tattooed stuff!* on: February 05, 2008 02:18:02 PM
okay, so if it's sits still, I'll paint it.

my other posts with tattoo design themes:

so here's the latest creation:

all the parts pulled out of the kit:

the piece was a one-in-a-million find & I wanted to give it as a gift, but that didn't pan out & it's been sitting around in my house, I finally decided to give it new life. It is easily one of the coolest things I've ever found & i'd like to think I make it just a hair cooler by adding my snake girl.

thanks for looking, have a great day!
16  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / resin glitter hearts! whee!!! on: February 04, 2008 01:07:03 AM
new resin experiment gone... Right!

I love these necklaces, I wish i could keep them all!

let me know what you think!
17  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / another tattooed purse! on: February 03, 2008 09:06:13 PM

let me know what you think!

18  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / my million-dollar idea: yer-face-here frames *pic obese!* on: February 03, 2008 07:38:47 PM
so my boyfriend and I have a little running joke that's kind of sad & motivating at the same time. He's a bartender & I'm a tattoo artist, but we hate working for other people so we're both on our "race to a million dollars", if he becomes a successful musician, or I a successful painter, then the other one doesn't have to work & we can do our own thing.

hoop dreams obviously, but it's nice to think about
I'd love to sell this kitschy little idea to knock-knock.biz or something, they're always a big hit at craft shows.

so here they are *DUN-DUN-DUN* Yer-Mug-Here photo frames!!

starring YOU as the virgin mary:

the voluptuous vamp in Man's Ruin:

a cute widdle bunny fufu (based on a great Tara McPherson print *my hero*):

here's some action pics at Indie Valentine:
she's a reproduction of original Sailor Jerry flash art

here's a happy customer buying her buddha!

I made a geisha that one of my fellow rollergirls bought before I could take a pic
(it's extra great cuz I was going to name the art "Shanghai Lily" after my team-mate, who ended up buying her! crazy...)
I'm getting better about this whole archiving deal...

more images to come:
koi fish based on this half-sleeve I've started on Mr Josh:

american gothic
circus freak posters
more geishas & japanese prints
more off my favorite rock posters

all of my frames are rescued from thrift stores & cleaned up/painted, I use as much upcycled (I love that word) materials as I can, waste not want not!
let me know what you think!!
19  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Mary Huff of Guadalupe no.1 (oh my PIC HEAVY rock n roll heart) + jesus! p.2 on: January 25, 2008 04:40:26 PM
1. I love love LOVE the band Southern Culture on the Skids. Most people don't know who they are, and the people who like them are at least 15 years my senior.
So here they are:http://www.scots.com/home/default.asp

2. Mary huff, the bass player, is my hero.

3. religious, mainly Catholic, art is oh so weird & cool

so I'm starting a series based on Mary Huff as the Virgin Mary. I'm addicted to painting rock stars, I try not to examine my motives to keep the subject pure  Grin
I'm really stuck on no. 2 but I figure I'll step away and give it some time.

here she is (I found the better pic!)!

here's an old Amelie portrait (she's not a rock star but she counts, too)

aaaand close-ups, I actually played this 45 til it fell apart, so when it finally bit the dust I used the stickers to Mickey by Tony Basil as accents (you know, oh mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind Hey Mickey *clap clap clap*)

here's a painting I did YEARS ago when this whole thing started.
you guessed it! Hedwig & The Angry Inch

20  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Skull & Rose painted handbag on: January 19, 2008 06:33:03 PM
I finished this for the Rock-n-Roll Craft Show in December, it was really fun & I hope to paint more bags, the best part is giving new life to an old, ugly handbag
