1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Cute Psychobilly/Pinup Inspired Summer Dress!! on: June 09, 2010 05:13:24 PM
So I've sewn most my life, but I hardly ever use patterns. I just always kinda wing it Cheesy

But I decided to buy a couple patterns that I could use this summer, to cut down on my spending. I buy wayyy too much clothing Roll Eyes
Well, I am HOOKED! I was SO happy at how nice and easy it was to make something with a pattern! No frustrating myself and ripping a bunch of seams! haha.

This dress was Simplicity 2362, view E. I slightly modified it... which I will go into detail about below.

The front has a sweetheart neckline, and little gathers. It fits sooo well! I added 3 limeish-pinkish buttons.

The buttons match the lime cotton lining in the top. YEP!! Fully lined, and faced! BAM! I would never do that on my own Wink

This is where my modification came in. The pattern called for a 12" hidden zipper, but I wanted the raw, metal zipper to show. It was from a pair of bondage pants that an ex wore in high school Tongue

Oh, yeah! What's this?!?!

My first real pockets!! I danced around a little when I finished this part! I have never made pockets like this before, and I'm soo glad this pattern taught me how! Plus, I HATE dresses without pockets! Cheesy

So yeah, this pattern was pretty easy, and the result is SOOO flattering. I wore it out for a friends birthday and was just feeling SOO awesome from the complements. I think I will be making my own clothing a lot more now, it reeallllly pays off, and makes the end result so much more special and worth the money Grin

4  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Ideas for a daycare or a spa? on: January 12, 2010 06:14:57 PM

Sooo I have to design a spa or a daycare for my final project in school. I'm getting my degree in Interior design.

But I'm having a hard time coming up with a good theme for a daycare... and the spa seems daunting. What sort of cute themes can you guys think of for a daycare? I've thought of a zoo theme, circus theme, and a fairytale theme... but they all seem so overdone!

And I've never been to a spa! I don't know where to start on that one... any ideas you guys have would be amazing!

thanks so much!!
5  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects / Stay Puft costume for a dog! on: November 01, 2009 12:05:54 PM
So I was asked to make a costume for my friends dog, Bruiser! They were going as ghostbusters, and he was the Stay Puft marshmallow man! He was adorable, actually wore his costume all night, and was a big hit at their party! I didn't use any patterns, and just kinda winged it.

me with Bruiser in my max costume. he tried to eat my tail all night Cheesy

And Bruiser and his mom and dad!

Thanks for looking! This was a real fun project Cheesy
6  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Max...ine?! Where the wild things are, pinup style!! on: November 01, 2009 11:56:16 AM
So I decided I wanted to be Max from Where the Wild Things Are for halloween, but make it girly, and more of a pinup style like all of my costumes! My friends thought it was funny that I was being a pretty little boy for halloween Wink

Full length shot.

I made everything here. I started with the hat, from a tute posted on here, and just modified it a bit to add the arms and claws. I live in FL, so a full length body suit wasn't going to work, it was 80 degrees here! Then I made the little dress, and added buttons to give it a max look. I found a feather boa that looked like fur for the tail, it was so soft! I made spats to finish the effect of the pinup theme, and i loved them best! i want to wear nude fishnets ans spats everywhere now! it felt so classy Cheesy I made the crown and scepter out of posterboard, a christmas ornament and a wooden dowel and spray painted it a bronzy gold. I also made a little shrinky necklace with the heart max and carol etched in the movie. This was my favorite costume ever! I felt so fun, childish, and cute all night, and I'm 23!!

you can see the necklace in that pic ^

I was such a happy girl!! Thanks for looking! Hope you like it as much as I did! Grin
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Let's go Magic! Recon from HUGE tee! on: June 11, 2009 12:01:48 PM
So, the Orlando Magic are in the finals! Whoopwhoop! I've been a magic fan since I was little, and used to go to the games all the time. They got realllllyy bad for awhile, but finally our team is showing our city what they can do! And I am SOO proud! It's crazy how basketball is uniting everyone, and how much pride Orlando has for their team!

So I made this shirt to wear tonight, for game 4 against the La Lakers. It was just a huggeee size large mens shirt. So I made it into a corset tube top. I used a pair of grey mens slacks for the backstrips where the grommets go, for stability. And I found cute basketball ribbon to lace it with.

ANNNDD I used my BRAND NEW Singer Confidence sewing machine! Everything is automatic on that baby, and I feel so professional!

Only thing I would change is too line the tee with cotton or something for support. The corset is tight, but stretches the jersey, and it gets a little loose sometimes. But other than that, I think its an awesome quick recon for game night. GO MAGIC Grin

On to the pics, sorry for the photo booth pics, i didn't have anyone here to take a pic!

Thanks for looking! Sorry Lakers fans Wink

8  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Come play with us... forever and everr! ((SHINING TWINS!)) on: November 05, 2008 07:18:08 AM
So this year, me and my bestie decided to be the twins from the shining! Even though she is a foot taller than me Cheesy

We had this planned for about a month, but did not start on the costumes till 3 days before halloween! Natalie was a first time sewer too... and did everything herself! we're so proud!

We made the dresses, not worrying about details tooo much, since we were going to soak ourselves in blood! And i also made the hairbows. That was pretty much it to our costume! Although I am in LOVE with knee high socks now!! Grin

this was before we got bloody. we almost decided against the blood... but i'm SO glad we did it! ((im obviously the short one... AND i had heels!! Wink ))

the actual twins for reference!

and then we got super bloody. we just threw it at each other... it was SO fun!

i was sooo happy, i kept smiling! dead girls don't smile!!!

and the twins "after" reference! eeeep!

I had never been something bloody or dead for halloween, and let me tell you, it was a BLAST! I think we pulled it off well, despite the height/hair difference! let me know what YOU think!!

9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / antique skeleton key whimsy =) on: August 13, 2008 06:43:19 PM
I started collecting these keys when my parents bought a house in Ashflat, Arkansas. Wonderful antique stores are within 20-30 minutes from the house! I have had them for a couple of years, and didn't know what to do with them until a recent choker swap that inspired me! The first is the "practice" piece, but I wear it a LOT now  Cheesy It was inspired by mermaids, and the ocean.

And then this one was the one for my partner, who liked things all earthy and natural.

She seemed to like it Cheesy

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / easy peasy pinafores! well..... on: May 22, 2008 03:22:52 PM
SORTA! Smiley

despite measuring like a madman, and checking everything twice, sometimes things just didn't match up! i'm so horrible at stretch fabrics!

this was my first attempt, after seeing all the cute little ones on here, and briefly looking at the tutorial.

and then, after some requests from friends, and scoring these awesome tree buttons, this little baby was born!

they are so much fun to make! all my girlfriends are making requests already Cheesy
they only take about three hours to make, and a yard or two of fabric, depending on the layering!
i think they are going to make perfect birthday gifts!

comments/criticism welcomed!

HA! forgot to post the action shots! i wore these the nights i made them, i couldn't resist!
