1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / dry cleaner plastic on: July 16, 2005 03:41:51 PM
i searched, thinking somebody had already asked this, so forgive me if i missed it...(and point me to the thread!)

my parents are always bringing home dry cleaning & since they're not going to be changing that any time soon, i figured i could at least reuse or recycle the plastic that covers the clothes

i've thought about cutting it into strips & doing the make-a-bag thing & i've donated alot to friends who are potters or who do ceramics (they use them to cover works in progress), but i'm hoping sombody has more ideas as to what to do. i just can't bear to toss them in the recycle bin without messing about with them first.
i'm mostly a knitter, but can sew & have done beadwork & stained glass & various other things, so i'm open to ideas in most craft arenas!

thanks in advance :-)
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / knit picks retro throw pattern question on: June 28, 2005 10:47:24 PM
i've cast on for yet another project in an attempt to avoid my current miles-of-sk-st project...

this is the pattern:

and this is the question: the k2tog and ssk dec's obviously form those ridges coming into the center of each square. the patt says to *co 40sts, pm, co 2* and rep from * to * 3 more times for a total of 168 sts ending with a co 2. so i read that as your total number of stitches will be 168.

but if thats the case, then it seems to me that on the 2nd rnd, the last dec will be a k2tog but it will NOT have a mirrored ssk (because you've reached the end of the round). am i reading this correctly? should i instead be casting on 168 sts and then an additional 2 to allow for that final ssk?

eek! tia!
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / filatura di crosa dali pattern support? on: October 11, 2004 08:02:12 AM

here's a pic: http://www.diamondyarn.com/image.php?yarnID=943&imgID=s

i was thinking a paris loop with a different yarn (aka a poncho/capelet) but anybody have any other ideas?

(no scarves, hats, or arm warmers please!)

thank you!
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / vest pattern help on: September 18, 2004 08:03:13 PM
*x posted on the knitty boards*

i'm making a vest (pretty much the first intermediate/advanced projects i'm going for) and have a 2 part question...

instructions say:
have: 26 sts
"when work measures 17.75" bind off 8 sts at center for neck and finish each side sep. at neck edge bind off 1 st. on 2nd foll row. when work measures 19" bind off rem 8 sts on either side for shoulders.

>>> so should i knit 9, BO 8, then knit 9, yes?
where exactly is the "neck edge"? just the end of the row??? what exactly do i do here?

then later:
(left front)
have: 19 sts
when work measures 9.5" BO at left edge for v neck 1 st once, then 1 st on every 4th row 4 times.
*AT THE SAME TIME* when work measures 10.25" work armhole shaping at right edge as for back.

>>>> so i bind off 1 st once, but which is the "left egde" - do i just get to pick one? do i just BO the last stitch on the row after the one that makes it measure 9.5"?
then, i knit 3 rows, BO 1 st (again at the mysterious "left edge" yes?), and repeat that 3x...
if in the midst of that it measures 10.25, what shaping do i work??? what was the shaping for the back??

and thank you!!!

9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / microspun for socks? on: August 05, 2004 02:36:53 PM
i've been petting some lionbrand microspun at michael's lately, but dont have any use for a knit tshirt or tank top. do you guys think i could use microspun for socks?

it would be my first attempt at socks; the yarn is so soft and silky, it seems like it would feel great. any thoughts on how it would actually knit up?
10  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / ack! an extra stitch! help! on: July 20, 2004 03:17:19 PM
ok, so i'm working on this baby blanket with a 5-stitch pattern repeat (basketweave pattern).
as i approach the end of a row i realize i have an extra stitch.
it had to have happened in this row or the previous one - before that i guarentee the number of sts was still right.
looking at the back i saw this...

closer (but blurrier) view: http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v331/killerdaisy/knit_error_02.jpg

what exactly caused this to happen & what must i do to remedy it?
