2  Baby Set *img hvy* in Knitting: Completed Projects by firedupfairy on: February 21, 2007 02:43:37 PM
Some of you may have seen this post around Valentine's. I made it from a pattern in a book my mom had (seen below~ org. printed in 1965). I used a strand of Lionsbrand BabySoft and a strand of RedHeart Luster Sheen. I went back and used duplicate stitch for the hearts. The original pattern has a hoodie, but I opted for a hat in the reverse colors.

3  girly baby sweater **HAT ADDED** img hvy in Knitting: Completed Projects by firedupfairy on: February 09, 2007 06:31:45 PM
because i can't say no, i agreed to make a baby sweater for my SIL to give as a gift to her friend.  i found the pattern in a book my mom had that was printed in the 50's. if i were making it for myself, and not because i had to, i probably would have finished it sooner and enjoyed it more. there were endless hours of stockinette hell! but it was knit in one piece w/ only seaming on the sleeves **yeah!!! little sewing**. it's my first raglan and also the first time i've used duplicate stitch (which i decided to add the green hearts to match the buttons). it looks a little crooked in the pictures, but it really isn't. unfortunately my 6yo stepson didn't seem to want to model for me (nor would he fit), so the best i could do was one of our build-a-bears  Wink  there's supposed to be a hoody, but i was getting tired and wanted to move on. i'll probably make a little hat instead.

I've added the hat in the opposite colors. there are four hats, two in the bright pink and two in the light pink.

4  hubby dubbed "hippy blanket" in Knitting: Completed Projects by firedupfairy on: January 18, 2007 06:23:48 PM
it's finally finished!! my 6 yo stepson got me a bunch of knitting stuff for christmas, but he was most proud of the ginormous speed stix he picked out! since they were a gift from him and i love him soooo much, i just had to find something to make with them (grudgingly!). i found a pattern for a blanket on lionbrands website and voila! i was 13 rows away from the end when i ran out of yarn. none of the joanns had it, so i had to order it on ebay. it came today and despite the fact that i'm behind on a baby sweater i'm making for a friend, i just HAD to finish!!!!!

the pattern did some crazy stuff w/ a cable needle, the best i can tell, midst all the fun fur, is that it made some diamond patterns. but, it's really hard to see them in the pictures. the blanket is huge, longer than me (which is no great feat since i'm only 5'1") so it's hard to get it in the picture, but anyway, here it is in all its glory!

the stripes are actually straight...

and an action shot on the couch Shocked)

i just went to the Marked for Life~ Female Tattoo Artist Convention in Kissimmee. I'm a member of the Florida Chapter of the Gypsy Queens and we had a booth setup w/ fellow GQ Shannon from Aragu Tattoo in DE. She did an amazing rib panel of cherry blossoms for me. and it's true what they say about ribs~ they hurt like a mutha! I've sat thru' long detailed tat's, but nothing like this! i don't regret a minute of it tho' because it's beautiful!!!

6  One Down.... in Knitting: Completed Projects by firedupfairy on: December 20, 2006 06:20:29 PM
one to go! i completed my first ever sock! horrah me. it's a bit thick, which makes it warm and cozy. i used lionbrand microspun~ not as thin as sock yarn, but it worked for my first. the pattern was from a leisure arts book "learn to knit socks". it's not quite as blue as the pics which are making it really bright.

7  **EDIT**cabled purse now w/ pin in Knitting: Completed Projects by firedupfairy on: December 16, 2006 06:41:09 PM
I knit this up for my sister-in-law for christmas. she's a purse fiend. she's also very hard to shop for and this year returned everything my mom bought her for her birthday. so the running joke (to those of us who know i made this) is that she can't return this one!! hahaha. i based it off a pattern on a blog i found via craftster. i'd post the link, but now i can't seem to find it anywhere  Angry

I decided to add a lil' bling w/ a pink rhinestone butterfly pin. Makes it look a little more interesting.

8  golf/safari theme baby blanket in Crochet: Completed Projects by firedupfairy on: October 26, 2006 05:12:39 PM
A good friend of mine is having a baby boy in February. She loved the blanket I made for another friend's baby girl and asked if I'd make her one too. Sure, of course! I asked if she had specific colors in mind and they decided to go with a Safari or Golf theme for the baby's room. ooooh kay...... That makes finding yarn a bit more difficult! While I'm not too keen on the colors for a baby, they are what she wanted. I ended up using worsted weight yarn from TLC. Which is actually okay, because they have travertine floors, so a nice thick blanket would be nice under the baby. It was worked in 5 long panels which were then whipstitched together. I then worked the edging. Enjoy!!!

9  knitty's ribbon xback in Knitting: Completed Projects by firedupfairy on: September 18, 2006 06:48:58 PM
i have project A.D.D. so this has been on my needles for a couple months. however, in the process I also made to hats, and am 95% done w/ a sweater vest out of the fall issue of vogueknits. having finished the two hats and deciding that i get waaaaay to hot (i'm in florida) trying to knit w/ the cashmere and mohair needed for the vest, i figured i'd get back to this one. i used crystal palace deco ribbon yarn. if i could do it over, i would make it a little longer. i thought i did, but clearly not enough. please also excuse my pj pants (they are cute tho' w/ little purses) and the pudge which is a result of steak n' shake dinner (including cheez fries and carmel apple milkshake!!!). i really don't look so much like a linebacker in real life Shocked)  the yarn did some funky diagnal striping in some places, i'm not sure how sold i am on this top. but we'll see. i tend to change my mind a lot.

10  why do boys like such uggo things??? in Knitting: Completed Projects by firedupfairy on: September 05, 2006 06:27:39 PM
my husband asked me to knit him a new hat. apparently, he lost the black one i made him last year. it being florida, there really aren't too many opportunities to wear knit hats. when we were at joanns a couple weeks ago, looking for CUTE yarn for socks, he picked out this ugly camoflauge yarn from Bernat. his theory is that he wants an ugly hat, so he can wear it fishing. whatever. it's a little big, but he wanted it bigger than the last one i made. and he also didn't want anything fancy, including ribbing on the bottom (why he considers that fancy is beyond me). so i kept the rib 1x1 and not even an inch thick. it's nothing exciting, but it made my man nice and happy and that's all that matters  Wink
