1  Quilt for a pet squirrel. in Quilting: Completed Projects by uglyshyla on: February 15, 2014 04:39:50 PM
A few years back I recused a squirrel and named her Winkelhimer.Since I have a squirrel I have been adopted into the "squirrel community".My friend Julie "the squirrel lady" squirrel Mr Nut had a birthday the other day.And with it being chilly here lately in Austin I made him a little quilt.I'm a doll artist by trade so I'm not a super quilter or anything. But Mr nut seemed to like it.Here are some pic's of it before I wrapped it up.
Mr Manxy the cat is in the pic's to show the scale of the quilt.

This is Julie's baby, and the owner of the quilt Mr Nut,he has his own website called Mr Nut Speaks

I found these hardly worn white converse at a thrift store. The only bad thing is they were white, stained and some kid had drawn happy faces on the rubber on the toe cap.So I repainted them.I'm pretty happy with the result
The after

The before.

6  Another painting BY my pet Squirrel Winkelhimer Smith. in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by uglyshyla on: May 28, 2012 06:47:51 PM

I got a few shots of another one of my handicap pet squirrel Winkelhimer Smith's paintings. She was recently shown on America Now with her abstract art!
She's also just discovered drawing with markers!
And before people yell at me for having a pet squirrel the reason I have her is she is handicap and can't be let back into the wild. You can see her little handicap hand/arm in the pic of her with the marker. If anybody wants to see videos of her painting or know about her you can just type in painting squirrel on anything.

7  Guede Spirit Doll Wall Hanging Prayer Holder in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by uglyshyla on: May 28, 2012 06:41:56 PM
Guede Spirit Doll Wall Hanging Prayer Holder
MEDIUM: Clay,burlap,satin,paint,lace,vintage fabric and wire.
SIZE: 13 X 11 inches

This doll is meant to be a connection with your ancestors and the spirit world. The back of the piece contains a little pocket,So you can write letters the deceased loved ones so they can get the message. You can just keep adding letters or notes and once the pocket gets over filled you can just burn the notes and start all over again.

Now for a long history lesson.LOL
About The Ghede:
Ghede are voodoo spirits of the dead,The Ghede is the eternal figure in black, controlling the eternal crossroads at which everyone must someday cross over. His symbol is the cross upon a tomb.
Ghede is sort of to the underworld or afterlife what Legba is to life-- he who controls access. Ghede controls access to everything in the afterlife.

Ghede is also god of eroticism. Eroticism is beyond good and evil since it is inevitable. Ghede is neither delighted by eroticism, and certainly not shamed by it. If anything Ghede is amused by the universal presence of eroticism and humans' constant need to pretend that it is other than what it is.

When Ghede mounts someone he often singles out people who pretend to be aloof from eroticism. He ridicules them, embarrasses them, exposes them (in more ways than one.) He is especially hard on whites since they often have the puritanical sexual attitudes of western culture.

Ghede is also often called BARON SAMEDI. In this aspect he is DEATH.

He is the keeper of the cemetery and the primary contact with the dead. Anyone who would seek contact with the dead must first contact and solicit Ghede/Baron Samedi in the same way that Legba is contacted to cross over to the spirit world.

Ghede has a ravenous appetite for food and drink and doesn't mind manifesting them when he mounts someone.

Ghede is a clown, an interrupter, a coarse fellow. But he is history too. As keeper of the cemetery he has intimate contact with the dead. He knows what their plans were, what's going on in families, what the connections of things are. And he is quite generous with his information. Even when he is clowning or performing his erotic antics, if you can pull him aside and ask him a serious question you will get a serious and reliable answer.

Another of Ghede's great powers is as the protector of children. Ghede generally does not like to see children die. They need a full life. Thus he is the loa to go to when seeking help for a sick child.

Ghede has the power over zombies and decides whether or not people can be changed into animals. Any such black magic voodoo must seek the help of Baron Samedi/Ghede with these tasks.

Lastly, since Ghede is the lord of death, he is also the last resort for healing since he must decide whether to accept the sick person into the dead or allow them to recover.

8  Art BY my pet Squirrel. in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by uglyshyla on: January 07, 2012 11:06:32 PM
Winkelhimer Smith is a handicap squirrel I rescued out of one of my outside cat's mouths. She is now a house pet and enjoys eating nuts, jumping on my shoulder and painting. No she really DOES paint.
She's gotten press coverage online for it and almost 40k hits on youtube.
One of my outside strays grabbed her off the tree by her little arm when she was just a bit bigger then a baby. Her arm got infected and he must have broke her wrist. The min she was attacked I bought her in because I figured she would at least pass in piece. But I still gave her some sugar water to see if she would perk up and some kitten infection meds. Her little nose was all bloody poor little thing. And she lasted the night so me and mom fought and fought to save her.And now she's getting 40K views on youtube!I'm so proud of her. She's got a handicap/non working hand because of the accident but it doesn't stop her.
