11  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Any Suggestions for a Man's Sweater Pattern? on: October 05, 2006 12:29:59 PM
I want to make my husband a sweater, but cannot find any patterns he would like.
He wants a pullover, plain stockinette with probably a 1x1 or 2x2 ribbing around the collar and cuffs. (Boring I know)
The good thing about this is that he is really thin so I will be able to knit a small size, and the sweaters he likes in stores are made out of pretty bulky yarn, so it should go pretty fast.
The only sweater I have knit that has worked out well, was a raglan style top down sweater for myself.  Since I could try it on periodically, it actually wound up fitting.  Are there men's sweaters made in this way?
Anyways, long story short, pattern suggestions anyone?
Also, any suggestions for a bulky yarn, that is not itchy? He is sensitive to some kinds of wool.
12  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / First Circular Project on: February 11, 2006 09:48:02 PM
I just started knitting the Umbillical Cord Hat from Stitch n Bitch as my first project on circulars.
This may be a dumb question but when you knit in the round does the knitting hang down from your needles or come up towards you?  I just noticed that my stockinette stitch is on the opposite side that I thought it would be.
13  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / FO: Windy City Scarf on: February 11, 2006 07:10:23 PM
My first project following a pattern.  My only other projects have been two garter stitch scarfs.  This is a gift for my sister.  It is made of 100% Alpaca.

14  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Buying My First Needles on: January 23, 2006 11:29:22 AM
OK, so I have knitted a couple scarfs in garter stitch, and I own two sets of needles, size 5 and 8.  I want to start trying some more complex patterns and knitting in the round.  Would you guys recommend biting the bullet and investing in the Denise interchangeable set right away?  I have head so many good things about it on this board.
Also does anyone know the best on line site to order supplies in Canada?  The Denise set on knitpicks.com is around $50 + $9 shipping, and when I convert that to Canadian I'm looking at $75 maybe.  What is a reasonable price to pay?  Are there any good Canadian web sites?

Thanks everyone!  I am already obsessed with knitting and I haven't even made anything cool yet!
15  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Brown Bagging it..... every day. on: December 06, 2005 01:04:07 PM
I need some new ideas for lunch.  My husband and I both work at 6:30 am, so we are super lazy when it comes to making lunch in the morning.  I have had a granola bar, banana, sandwich, orange, and a yogurt, almost every work day for the last year.
Who has ideas for how to make lunch exciting again?  It has to be quick and I have access to a microwave but he does not.  So I feel bad when I get to take delicious leftovers to work, and he still just gets a sandwich.
Thanks guys, I know you will help out.  Smiley
16  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / How can I wrap a magazine subscription? on: December 05, 2005 09:04:19 AM
I got the mother-in-law a magazine subscription for Christmas.  I bought this month's issue to wrap up, but does anyone know of a cute way to wrap it up and let her know that she'll be getting a year's subscription?
If anyone is looking for a easy gift, I totally recommend a subscription.  I got one last year and I love getting it every month.  It is also a pretty cheap idea, lots of magazines are less than $20 for a year.
