3  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Copyright Info / Using Other Peoples' Images / Etc on: April 18, 2006 08:59:21 AM
I have another question, this time about public domain...
I've found a public domain image I like (drawing from an old book), and I've been editing it (taking out the background/border, cleaning up lines and colouring) to use on a layout for my website/shop, now I know I can't claim the public domain image as my own, and I wouldnt want to, but can I lay claim over the way I've edited, coloured and used it? I'm thinking it would be like a book with public domain stories, you can't copyright the stories but you can copyright the way they are presented? is that right? I'd be kind of miffed if someone just ripped my layout

myloveasdeep- after looking at that website I recognise several other things, also the quality and style varies quite a lot... I suspect the store owner has made very few of her own designs, so I wouldn't bother apologising to her, seeing as I doubt it was her image in the first place, I don't know about from a legal point of view though
4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Photo transfer onto leather? on: April 15, 2006 06:53:42 PM
I was looking at a photo transfer liquid today called Omni-gel which says it will transfer images to:

glass, metal, fabric and leather, or canvas

now transfering picture to leather sounds really intresting to me, but I cant find any tutorials or information on how to do it, and I dont want to buy a bottle and then find out its not suitable, so I have a few questions for anyone whos worked with this or similar things in the past...

would it be suitable for making leather cuffs and jewelry? does it peel off like t-shirt transfers? would I need to seal it in some way? what else would I need?

any information would be apreciated
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: No! I won't make/fix/sew/knit your....!! on: March 24, 2006 11:10:32 AM
I don't have people ask me for crafts because I hide them to avoid the things you guy are talking about

I used to draw a lot, people would always ask me to draw something for them, which I always hated, I'm painfully slow and always paranoid about flaws, drawing for other people was so stressful it just sucked out all the fun of drawing for me

so thats why I decided to be sneaky with my crafts, people won't usualy ask me to make them anything because they havent seen what I've made ^.^;
