1  Re: Quilt Made From T-Shirts in Quilting: Discussion and Questions by laura1121 on: September 17, 2006 06:56:52 PM
ok so im halfway through making a tshirt blanket/quilt/whatever and i need some help.  unfortunately, i did everything very haphazardly so far, the seams are all wonky and not lined up but since i cant fix that im just going to focus on doing the rest correctly.

i already sewed all the tshirts together into a big block (the front of the blanket) but now i have no idea how to do the backing.  i want to use fleece but i dont think i can buy a piece of fleece large enough to cover the back?  it's a little bigger then a twin bed...i was thinking of just sewing it to the front like a pillow (wrong sides together then leave one side open to pull through & sew that) but i want it to look like

that...as in, the blue part is part of the backing...so you can see the backing from the front, and i don't think you'd be able to if i just did the "pillow" thing

also...when people say "tie it" in the corners, what exactly does that mean and how exactly do you do that?  sorry if thats a dumb question.  i was just going to sew each corner of each shirt to the backing but then i came here and everyone said to "tie it" and i have no idea what that means

thankkkk youuuu in advance to anyone who would like to help me Smiley

2  my take on the PDQ, with some alterations :) in Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller by laura1121 on: September 13, 2006 12:49:10 PM
so last night i happened to be out shopping and happened to see some amazing yarn and of course i had to buy it even though i had no use for it.  so i went home and eager to start using it right away i looked through this book for an idea...and decided it would look awesome as a PDQ...

blah blah, did ear flap #1, decided it looked silly on me, but wait!  a brim would look nice, or so i thought...

so instead of making ear flap #2, i made a brim...and then just sewed a button for ear flap #1 and buttoned it up...what do you think??

4  my first "real" crochet project in Crochet: Completed Projects by laura1121 on: July 28, 2006 09:00:56 AM
after my first attempt at crocheting, i considered myself hopeless because i just couldn't get the hang of it.  then, about a year ago i tried again and made a ton of scarves using double crochet, not even attempting to learn anything else about crocheting or even realizing how much you could do with it anyway.  thennnn about a week ago i was in the bookstore and found a crocheting book and decided to pick it up..

and this is the first thing i did other then a bunch of scarves and an attempt at a crocheted hemp necklace...

im pretty proud of it, i know it's not perfect but it's a decent try i think..

without anything in it

with stuff in it

i want to use interfacing or something but...can that be done with crochet?  if i were to line it?  help!!

5  crocheted hemp in Crochet: Completed Projects by laura1121 on: June 25, 2006 10:32:21 PM
ok so...i decided to crochet hemp?  i know this has probably been done before but i've never heard of it or tried it before, so here is my first attempt...

it's a necklace, im not sure how much i like it though.  i think the stitches need to be smaller, but when i tried using a smaller hook it didnt grab the hemp correctly...i'll have to work on this, i guess

**edit:  blahhhh my pictures got resized...if you want the bigger/better pictures, go to http://s12.photobucket.com/albums/a235/lauraa_/sewing/

9  50s style halter? sort of? pretty!!! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by laura1121 on: February 01, 2006 05:59:52 PM
hello lovelies!!!  wednesdays are no classes for me, so instead of doing work which i should have been doing, i made this shirt.  it is made from some reallyREALLY old fabric i found in my house and it's not stretchy at all.  i didn't have a zipper laying around so i've just been struggling to put it on and take it off.  sometime this week i'll put a zipper in the back haha.  it's made from scratch without a pattern

comments and/or criticism always welcome Smiley

excuse the messy room and blurred out face

thanks for looking!!!

p.s. after reviewing my post i realize how distracting the chain i'm wearing is.  blahh should have taken it off before taking pictures! sorry!
