1  How does a second grade teacher best spend Spring Break?! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by rhina on: April 10, 2009 05:44:43 PM

This could be considered interior decorating, but I'm going to put it under here because it was mostly an art project despite that it is considered a major piece of decoration in my son's room!

I decided to spend this spring break creating a mural for my son's bedroom.  I let him pick the topic and he choose Pokemon as that has been his obsession for more than a year at this point in time.  So he won and I decided that it at least the topic would be easy to paint.

To start out, he created a list of his favorite Pokemon and I found online pictures through google and used Photoshop to generate a single 8 by 10 image.  I printed that out and made an overhead of it.  Borrowing an overhead from school, I projected it on the wall and traced it.  I used a pencil and I definitely need a better medium to trace with next time.  The mural was then painted with craft acrylics.  It was a medium I felt comfortable with in terms of mixing and changing.  I'd like to try something a bit more of a challenge next time.  When I finished, I traced outlines with a black sharpie to make it all stand out.  The best part of doing it this was though was that it cost me nothing!  Next time I will go for a different medium and seal it as well, but as I live in an apartment, I will have to paint over it eventually.

Here it is!  Needless to say, I'm pretty pleased with the results and so is my son.  Questions and comments appreciated.
