2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / SEAMSTRESSES? Pattern Sizing Questions on: February 09, 2006 03:31:34 PM
Now I have been sewing for a very long time (since I was about eight) And My question is this:

Everytime I measure myself, pick a size and turn out the pattern it is too big.
I am wondering what the heck I am doing wrong. This just happened today. I made the vogue pattern in a size 16 (which claimed it would be about 2 inches to small, but I am working with stretch so I figured I was alright) and it ends up being HUMUNGOUS on me. What is wrong with me?!?!

I feel really lame!
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Chubby Pin Up Purse! on: January 21, 2006 11:52:57 AM
Here is a purse I made for the fat girl swap! It is made out or red velvet and embellished with a chubby pin up girl. (modified a sublime stitching pattern).

I of course forgot to take pictures of anything important like the lining or the closures or all that good stuff.

Details of swap:
Its a PANTY RAID! In this swap you will be sending two pairs of underwear out to TWO different partners. You can send panty/cami sets, boxer shorts, thongs as long as they are new. For ease of embellishment we will ask that they are cotton or cotton blend undies since microfiber and other fabric can be very difficult to stitch/stencil. If you want to send his and hers embellished underwear or a two piece set be sure to ask your partner if that is alright (you dont want to just dump extra work on them!) After your partner has received the underpants they will embellish them and send them back to you!. This way size and fit is totally in the recipients hands and you will be certain to receive a pair of undies that fit you!

Delivery Confirmation is mandatory for ever stage of this swap. You will receive a big fat NEGATIVE if you fail to get a delivery confirmation.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Am I being a total freak? on: January 16, 2006 11:05:31 AM
So the boyfriend and I are on a 'break'. Pretty much we both really need to focus on school at the moment. We still talk via email and he's still my best friend.
His birthday is coming up.
I really want to give him something special but is that too strange?
I was thinking of making a quilt because he just redid his room and his blanket is lame. Or a scrapbook of our 2 month trip to europe since he doesnt even have pictures of it and I think he should. + some chocolate dinosaurs because that is what I got him the first year we were dating.

I mean- am I totally out of line?
6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Panty Raid Swap? on: January 15, 2006 06:42:44 PM
So this is my basic idea-
Get partners and then  send our underpants (new of course) and have them embellished and sent back.

The partner would specify the range of materials that she would be able to embellish on.

What do we think?

We could even do boxers/booty shorts or something like that since I know alot of ladies wear those to bed.

edit: more defined idea of the swap.
7  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Scrapbooking: Discussion and Questions / Journaling on: December 08, 2005 12:20:19 PM
I was wondering what you all do for your bits of journaling. I need something to keep the scrapbook interesting. So far I've written directly on my bags and made mini "books" that i can adhere to the pages.

any ideas would be mighty helpful. I am trying to finish a scrapbook of a 2.5 month trip to europe and it is starting to become a HUGE project.
8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / she's "at that age" but i still have to get her something. on: December 07, 2005 04:29:14 PM
so my little sister has been nothing but impossible to deal with because she has entered teenagerdom and all she likes to do is drink and swear and hate herself. (I am not too worried- i was there and I turned out great).

But here is the thing SHE IS IMPOSSIBLE.
I thought about maybe getting her nice booze and a shaker and some mixers but that idea didn't fly with my mom. proving that I really have no idea what I am doing.

About her:
She is 15 years you
She rides horses but those gifts have kind of gotten old
She just learned to drive but also just totaled my parents new truck (is it too soon to make jokes about it?)
She likes to think she is really alternative.

About me (gift giving wise)
I dont really want o give her gift certificates unless I can come up with something great to give with it.

Here is my only idea so far-
I ordered a book about cult movies (for me) bu i could maybe give it to her with a gift certificate to the rental place? or the misic/dvd store?

I have also checked the 'in a box' thread and still cant seem to come up with anything.
this is getting horrible.!
christmas is so soon!
9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / How do you turn the smoke detector off.... on: November 23, 2005 04:23:41 PM
not really crafty BUT OH GOODNESS.
I was cooking and there was something on the burner- kind of started to smell smokey and that was fine. I am used to that but then the smoke detector went off. I went over to the burner- turner it off and put a lid over it so that it wouldn't agitat the smoke detector again.
I got on a chair and piddled with the smoke detector (batted it around until it finally stopped) I got off my little chair and went back to the stove and moved my pot to a different burner and turned it on- OR SO I THOUGHT. DUN DUN DUN.
No- this is the stupid part- I turned the problematic burner BACK on!
The smoke detector went off again so i ran back and while i was on my chair trying to figure the damn thing out I looked over- there was thick smoke swirling aournd the light.
The only thought i could have at this point was WEELLLLL SH***TTTTTT.
I ran back took the lid off the burner and underneath was a FULL BLOWN RAGING ENORMOUS FIRE!
I looked franticlly for baking soda but since i just moved out I had none.
At this point I of couse thought it would be a great idea, in my panick, to grab the lid that had JUST been on top of this raging fire WITH MY BARE HANDS. Nothing has hurt so much.
I held the lid there until it went out
It took a long time.
I should take pictures of my burns because I have never had burns like this. They are kind of hard and white. Not blistery.
But I just thought I should share. It is semi hilarious now that it is over.
10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Even my boyfriend is becoming a craftster! on: November 21, 2005 08:30:15 PM
So the boy and I were talking about an upcoming poker night but I mentioned being super poor.
he mentioned this...

havent worked out the details- I was thinking of say something like everyone bring:
8 small items
2 medium
1 large

the medium being worth 4 and the large being worth 8.

something like that.

i just thought that it was too amazing of an idea not to share.
