1  Re: Dream Swatch Head Wrap by Knit & Tonic KAL in Knitalongs by Geobabe on: June 19, 2006 06:35:04 PM
Here's my first one, I used a leftover ball of wool, don't remember what kind. the wool kind of fuzzed up when i blocked it and it didn't do much for the stitch definition.  I think the key to making these look nice is use yarn with good stitch definition and use needles that are too big for the yarn.  This was made with 3 wraps but I'll be using 4 from now on.

Hi everybody, sorry I've been so out of touch (especially you, shylittlegoddess!)  May turned out to be a really tough month at work and I have not been able to post pictures of my AWESOME SWAP BOOTY until now!  shylittlegoddess was an excellent swapper, everything she made was really suited to my favorite colors and tastes, and she made things which she knew I could use!

First there is the Uncle Shelby's Calendar!

It has a different "tip" from Uncle Shelby's Handbook for every month!  She even started it at May 06 so I can use it right away!  Here's May:

Next, there's this awesome needle case with a set of needles and two balls of cool eyelash yarn!  Blue and brown are my favorite colors and this yarn will be perfect to knit into a scarf I've been planning for my mom.

I can't decide which of the next two are my favorite.  Both of these crafts require a lot of time and natural talent, neither of which I can seem to find lately.  First is the tote.  It has hand painted pictures from Where the Sidewalk Ends - some of my very favorites.

and the detail:

I love the adaptation of ickle me pickle me tickle me too!

finally, shylittlegoddess made me the coolest personalized journal!  it has my name on it, with two of my FAVORITE POEMS OF ALL TIME on the cover - and a few more on the inside!  Best of all, there's a foldout on the first page with beautiful drawings and original poetry!

Thanks so much Leah, that is the perfect first page for what I hope will become a journal full of creativity.  I've already started filling in my next knitting project and it's going to be my craft journal.  Thanks a billion for your patience too.  Everything is finally finished and I'll be sending in the morning!  I hope it's worth the wait!

3  Rusty drill bits rescued from a torn up zip lock bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Geobabe on: April 16, 2006 11:43:05 PM
After knitting a load of hats (but never a sweater!) for the old man, I finally found something he actually wants me to craft for him.  He wants bags and envelopes for various tools.  I bought some white canvas and some tan naugahide (sp?)  to line the tool bags.   This was kind of sewn inside out, that is, the tan naugahide that lines the envelope was cut about 1/2" bigger all around than the white canvas that makes up the exterior. I folded the tan around the white and sewed it all around with gold thread. Then I folded the resulting sheet into an envelope and stitched up the sides with waxed sail twine. Finished it off with a brass grommet which will get some left over 3-ply line through it to tie the whole thing off. He likes it, woo hoo!

Outside of envelope:

Finished two!  Posted these on the Nautie KAL too.

These are little guys and they're a gift for somebody who could be on craftster now except that she's probably at home in bed.  by tomorrow morning there may be a third one.  they were knitted on size 3 dpns.

Anybody still interested in this?  I just embroidered this Shel sketch for my brother for his birthday and can't wait to do another:

6  Envelope-style laptop jacket in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Geobabe on: April 05, 2006 10:48:37 PM
My good friend Trifarina (stuck out at sea, bless her heart) helped me make this gorgeous laptop envelope on her sewing machine.  She also helped me pick out the colors, provided the padding, and did the sewing.  So I guess you could say she made it while I watched.  Anyway, it's a layer of tapestry and a layer of flannel.  The compass roses on the gold tapestry have moss green detail in the center, which matches the flannel.  We also put a couple extra layers of an old fleece blanket in the center to pad one side of the laptop.  The 3-ply fold over flaps pad the other side.  We got the idea for the shape from a thick 1-ply felt model on a japanese website that I can't seem to find at the moment (if anyone knows it, let me know and I'll add it to this post).  Anyway the velcro is strong and it works great and I've been getting compliments all over the place.

7  Re: change color between cables? in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by Geobabe on: April 05, 2006 10:42:06 PM
I did it!!!  intarsia wasn't as bad as I thought.  Instead of using 2 green balls, I just pulled from both ends of the one.

Inspired by knitty's Coronet by Alexandra Virgiel (pattern here:

I made it for a guy but I think the colors I picked are too girly for him, anyway it fits me perfectly:

9  Received from fadeawaydream! in The Swap Gallery by Geobabe on: March 03, 2006 04:44:58 PM
Fadeawaydream made me this gorgeous tote:

I had originally asked her to make me a shower bag, but when I saw the tote I knew it would be perfect for my knitting bag!  As you might be able to tell from the pictures, I have crafty junk everywhere and it's a source of friction...  so this big tote is just perfect.  I struck a deal with my boyfriend right there so that he won't complain about the crafty stuff again as long as it all stays/fits in the tote.  Thanks for making me such a big tote fadeawaydream!  The seam work is beautiful and I love the plaid.  And the denim fits right in with our colors.

10  Trifarina made me the best present ever in Knitting: Completed Projects by Geobabe on: January 31, 2006 08:22:36 AM
Oh hells yeah.
Check this out.  My crafty pal Trifarina made this for me from the cowboy fabric we found at Beverly's.  She bought up all they had left.  When we went back later and asked for more, they claimed to have no knowledge of the "sexy cowboys" or "homoerotic marlboro men" or anything along those lines.  ha.

And yes those are my INITIALS embroidered on the pocket of an old pair of GEOLOGY FIELD-TESTED blue jeans.  Does this girl know me or what.

What makes it EVEN BETTER is that the night before she gave it to me, my backpack was stolen and I lost a couple projects and some needles.  So I walked into the knitting store with my sexy new needle roll (prompting great jealousy) and they gave me a sympathy discount on my (sort of justified???) new needle binge!  (because I'm grateful I should mention that the discount came from Swift Stitch in Santa Cruz, they have all the most desperately cool yarn and great patterns.)
